Tesla is hearing a case in Miami today in a case in which Elon Musk’s company has been accused of responsibility for a deadly crash in the auto pilot. In the past, the system is being examined with the help of a driver, but Tesla has only faced a jury case on the question of whether an auto -pilot fault for someone’s death.
The case has come up in a particularly dangerous moment for Tesla, which is currently moving forward with its plan to introduce robotics to more cities. The company is also facing a month -long reaction to Musk’s hard -right turn and Donald Trump’s administration.
The auto pilot, which can control steering and braking functions, as well as automatically conduct changes on some highways, increasing increased scrutiny by federal regulators. And it has been the center of numerous cases, some of which have been settled and others have been dismissed.
In the case of a question, Tesla Model S. The drivers and a couple who were gazing at night. The 20 -year -old Nabebenwids was killed in 2019 when George McGji’s model S had entered the stationary SUV with a T -interface. MacG was using an auto pilot, but he dropped his phone and was neglected at the time of the accident. Benwids and his boyfriend, Dallon Angolo, who were seriously injured, were standing outside the SUV when McKie’s Tesla stirred it.
Trial comes at a dangerous moment especially for Tesla
The case, which is being heard in the US District Court for the southern District Florida, was filed by the family of Angolu and Benwids.
Tesla plans to argue that the company is not mistaken because the auto pilot was not under vehicle control at the time of the crash, citing data that MacG under the suppressing of the accident at the time of the crash. Also, Tesla has long argued that drivers bear the responsibility when accidents contained in the auto pilot. On its website, the company says its driver’s rescue system “requires active driver’s active supervision and does not make the vehicle independent.”
The plaintiffs will argue that the system has some responsibility for failing to warn the driver that the accident was near. Before the accident, the vehicle ignored the stop sign, and automatic emergency breaking work should be done even if not engaged in an auto pilot.
Nevertheless, it would be difficult for the plaintiffs to be pleased with the jury that Tesla had a fault. The court noted that in cases of Florida’s automobile liabilities, the quality is “whether the car maker showed the vehicle by designing and marketing the car with indifference to human life,” the court noted.
In fact, in another case related to the accident since 2019, Tesla was not considered responsible for the death of a Model 3 owner, whose vehicle was crashed while driving in an auto pilot. And in another case, a jury ruled against the plaintiff Justin Husseo, who, using an auto pilot, tried his car on Tesla after coming to a median.
Tesla has long been able to eliminate the responsibility of deadly accidents related to its products. The company was forced to release several memories after a federal investigation into dozens of accidents in Tesla vehicles with an auto pilot, but has never been criminalized.
In 2023, Kasturi laughed a question from investors whether his company would accept legal responsibility for its own operating vehicles in the future. “Many people assume that we have a legal responsibility,” said Musk.
Still, the stake for Tesla is incredibly high – but then, when are they not? The judge, who presided over the Florida case, has ruled that the plaintiff can suffer damage to Tesla. And since Tesla has refused to set geographical boundaries on the auto pilot, despite evidence that the system was invalid to handle some conditions, the judge said that the jury could ruin a reasonable rule against Tesla.
He wrote, “A reasonable jury may find that Tesla worked to ignore the neglect of human life for the development of her product and maximum profit.”
