I’ll tell you what wasn’t on my Christmas list this year to Santa – irrationally enjoying (no, loving) a Netflix holiday movie. I’ve seen a lot of bad ones in this job, but My Secret Santa Undoubtedly, good humor is the best of the genre.
In short. , it is Mrs. Doubts If only Robin Williams decided to be a drag king Santa instead of a sassy Scottish pensioner. Instead of desperately trying to win back his estranged wife, single mom Taylor (Alexandra Breckenridge) needs quick cash to send her daughter to an elite snowboarding resort.
Of course, romance is also in the air. Matthew (Ryan Eggold) recognizes ex-singer Taylor in a record store, and so does the resort’s new general manager — you can already guess how it’s going to end by reading this synopsis.
My Secret Santa cements Alexandra Breckenridge as the queen of Netflix
look
If you’re suggesting that I’m writing this review solely as an excuse to write a love letter to Breckenridge’s work and further my reason for trying to interview him in 2026, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
She takes My Secret Santa She has a swagger on her shoulders, and she pulls off a completely impenetrable story, completely what it is. This is the kind of story she was born to tell, and the film’s happy-go-lucky tropes fueled by more authentic real-world problems suit her warm and engaging personality incredibly well.
Bottom line, I don’t really care about Taylor’s character arc or his capers while wearing Father Christmas’s baggy pants — I’m always buying what Breckenridge is selling. It’s impossible not to be entranced by his screen time, and he exudes natural charm in everything he does. You want to be her, you want to be best friends with her…even when she’s pretending to be an old man.
As far as Christmas movies go, this one is pretty original
The biggest compliment I can give My Secret Santa Does it feel current without trying too hard? There are no cringe-worthy Tiktok jokes, no trends being jumped on, and no one trying too hard to fit into a mold that they naturally don’t. Yes, the ending is undeniably corny, but that’s in keeping with the spirit of Christmas movies.
Tia Mowry isn’t a natural fit as a villain, and Taylor’s daughter not being able to snowboard doesn’t have huge stakes. However, we’re here to invest in a romantic connection, not wallow in terror. Obviously, it’s all a bit naff (lacking taste and style for my non-Brits), but it comes with the territory.
I’m not sure I’m writing this, but I’m already considering watching My Secret Santa Again (which is basically the equivalent of a pig flying). I got a lot of joy, warmth and feel-good vibes from Netflix’s latest festive offering, and that’s how you know it’s good.
