But Apple has been on this direction for a while. In 2020, the magic keyboard brought an additional port and a full trackpad to the iPad. Then in 2022, the company introduced external display support, and finally, in the update of the iPad professionals in 2024, webcam was transferred to portrait mode. But this year’s update really feels as if it has reached the tiping point. And Apple also sold this in two really smart ways.

First, most iPad users can never realize the winding feature. Like many deep iPad features, winding is completely optional and as default. Open an app on your iPad, and it is still default by the full screen. It seems that the average person will never see a small size icon in the bottom right corner of the apps. This is an important design decision, as it maintains the basic identity of the iPad as an easy interface.

Second, Apple Kolyi never said these new elements as a Mac during a key note, rather than just calling them “familiar”. Even in the presentation, he kept the Ipados and Macos at distance, besides the distance, not paying attention to how similar these two products have been. Apple never wants to stand against each other’s two products, and always indicates that someone has the reason for both iPads and Mac. But with iPados 26, let’s be real: it now requires some serious academic contradictions to believe.

I am not suggesting that the iPad will ever change the MacBook Pro. People who really need this extra performance will always come to these more powerful Max. But what will happen to Apple’s most popular laptop, MacBook Air?

The iPad Pro and MacBook have always been confused in air price and sunglasses – certainly, Apple is at risk of dealing with its products. I have no doubt that Apple will keep both around both of them as long as possible, but I feel more inclined to compare the two directly. This is even more true because the update of iPados will also be available on the base member and the iPad mini when it officially starts at the end of the fall.

So, does all of this mean that a proper alliance between iPados and Macos in tasks? Or what about the touch screen MacBook? In the past, Apple has definitely said that it has no plans to integrate its operating system. It was a declaration that won the audience in WWDC in 2018. And yet, to the extent to which these ideas reached seven years ago, anything seems possible.
