A few days ago a report alleged that Samsung has changed the dimensions of the upcoming Galaxy S26. It was initially supposed to be 6.9mm thick, but was later adjusted to 7.24mm. It seemed strange, but today a new report from the company’s Korean house seems to explain why it happened.
Apparently, Apple is to blame. In particular, the fact that the Cupertino company priced the iPhone 17 at 99,799 in the US did not increase its price compared to its predecessor. Samsung wants the S26 to cost exactly the same, which is why it reportedly had to make it much thicker than its initial concept.
Not only that, but the battery will also suffer. Samsung wanted to give it a 4,900 mAh cell, but this was cut to 4,300 mAh to save money. So, if this is true, Samsung assumes that Apple will increase the price of the iPhone 17, and the Korean company wants to target the same price, while introducing an upgraded battery capacity and a slimmer body.
But since Apple didn’t raise the price of the iPhone 17, Samsung couldn’t introduce these upgrades without raising the price of the S26 compared to the S25, and since it didn’t really want to misalign the price of the S26 with the iPhone 17, it chose to forego the upgrade instead. This is definitely an interesting strategy.
The Galaxy S26+ is said to have the same thickness and battery capacity as its predecessor, while the S26 Ultra fits the same 5,000mAh battery as the S25 Ultra in a 0.3mm thin shell. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will come with Samsung Display’s “Flex Magic Pixel” technology, which allows you to set up a privacy screen electronically, without the need to install an additional film.
