For the Bruce Springsteen faithful — and perhaps those who feel the same way about Jeremy Allen White — today, October 24, 2025, has been a long time coming, e.g. Springsteen: Take Me Anywhere Finally showing in movie theaters all over the world.

Now, for lack of a better analogy, bass has been the soundtrack of my life—well, for most of it—so I headed to a local AMC theater for an opening night preview screening with Dolby Cinema in the great state of New Jersey.

I had a lot of feelings, especially since Springsteen: Take Me Anywhere Not like most biopics. But I wouldn’t even call it that, because it focuses on a very specific, brief time in Springsteen’s career. Rather than portraying the many months spent acquiring Born to run Exactly or even better Born in AmericaThe release, or Springsteen’s rise to stratospheric stardom, shed light on one of his darker chapters — one that Springsteen has been more open about in his memory. Born to run and in Warren Zanes Don’t take me anywherewhich book inspired this movie.

So, let’s dive in — and fair warning, I’ll have some mild spoilers ahead, even though it’s such a joke because it’s based in fact, and we all know it. Nebraska.

Springsteen: Take Me Anywhere Much better than I was expecting. It’s a good movie that’s like an intense character study of a certain time in Bruce Springsteen’s life. It jumps before, during and slightly after recording Nebraska, A deep dive into his mental health – both Bruce’s and his family’s – and his upbringing. The latter is done through black and white flashbacks, which feel a bit out of place at times but at least do a good job of rooting out the pain and depression.

It’s a glimpse into that upbringing, but soon turns the anxiety and rush of a collision into the thrill of rushing and performing. Born to run to close Tor River. This is our first look at the E Street Band during this time, and one of the few Springsteen: Get Me Anywhere.

I’ve never really believed that Jeremy Allen White was a complete Bruce Springsteen impersonator, but he certainly has the look of a rock star known for soulful performances. Perhaps most importantly, Alan White doesn’t just sound like a bassist but, in my opinion, has a lot to do with body language and how he presents himself.

From there, we see the relationship between Jeremy Strong—and Bruce—Jon Lindau blossom on screen, and it matches the real-life relationship. They were two friends forever, who clearly had each other’s backs, and Lando certainly does a masterclass in being an agent, manager, and friend — fighting for the artist’s ambitions.

We see Bruce then rent at Colts Neck, dive deep into some reading, and finally watch Terrence Malick’s 1973 film. Bee Lands, Which leads him to do a bit more research and eventually starts on a track called Starkweather.for , for , for , . which becomes Nebraska. The action is shown on the big screen, and the historic room, with its orange shag carpet, is something of a Holy Grail. And Jeremy Allen White gets the singing voice pretty close, as well as the guitar playing, though with a unique twist. I also need to give a shout out to the audio quality in this Dolby Cinema, but also to the mixing team Springsteen: Deliverance from Anywhere, It is well done. And there are some tracks where the song shifts from Jeremy Allen White to Bruce Springsteen, and vice versa.

We also see Bruce go on a few dates with a character, who is actually a composite, and we see the struggle as he runs away from fame and some self-discovery, feeling like an outsider in his own body.

Beyond the recording, I think what really resonated with me was the visual telling of Springsteen’s struggles with his own mental health and his father’s, and with repairing their relationship. Although rooted in reality, director Scott Cooper definitely took some liberties here and sped up the timeline.

It’s rare, I think, for Bruce himself to be so open with revealing, telling, and reliving it, and Jeremy Allen White really shines in these scenes—he perfectly conveys the feeling of an outsider in his own body, who has acted out the breakdown and panic attack with realism. Alan White also shows the struggle of understanding something but not knowing how to get help – remember this is in the 1980s, specifically 1982.

I think these are the most powerful moments, and even if the pacing can be slow at times, it allows these moments in the film to really develop and be delivered with plenty of time. For those who have read Born to run Or maybe seen Springsteen on Broadway, I think it serves as a really nice introspection and deep dive Nebraska.

Yes, it is more niche than, say, born to run, Born in America, Or Springsteen’s other work, but this one is more raw, natural, and, ultimately, more effective. It’s an important aspect of how Boss became Boss, and while I faced my doubts, the result is an effective, well-rounded film that’s deeply emotional, emotional, and ultimately an intimate character study.

Yes, it can be hard to get past the fact that Jeremy Allen White is no Bruce Springsteen, but thanks to the attention to detail, physicality and close study, it’s believable – minus the look.

Finally, Springsteen: Take Me Anywhere Explores the process of coming to terms with childhood trauma and its effects, which can sit with you and become life themes as you move forward. We know Bruce’s family suffered from mental illness, and he had his own demons. Art comes from that to a degree.

It may not hit every note perfectly, but I think fans will love it—it’s an honest, heavy, and deeply human look at Springsteen during one of his darkest periods, still infusing the music-making process with a taste of E-Street Band greatness.

Ultimately, an antagonism to most biopics — a good thing.
