Damian Weld / Android Authority
tl; drag
- Android offers easy built -in backup tools, but it does not automatically save every file on your phone.
- Google seems to be working on a new option to clearly backup files.
- At this time it is unclear whether it will support any and all files, or will be limited to documents.
If you want to avoid a smartphone crash, backing up your data is one of the most important things that causes you to suffer too much. It is easy to see why no one can assume that activation of Android backup will allow them to restore 1: 1 copy of their entire phone, but Google’s tools do not treat all the data alike.
Right now, Google’s backup offers two key options: photos and videos, and other device data. The former is quite straight, and protects all of your Google photo content. The latter, though, may be a bit confused, and from the device settings to the text message date to the app to the app data covers everything.
Although what is the “app data”? Although this app varies from the app to what content they store, this category does not contain too much things like things you download with Chrome. And when you are free to manually save your phone’s download folder with a Google Drive service, those files do not usually cover by Android backup.
Given the changes in the Google Play Services version 25.32.31 beta, we have indicated that users have been trying to give us a clear option to maintain these downloads.
Just as the system uses Google Photos to back your pictures and video, it seems that Google will lean on the drive to handle the original storage – it seems that it is being widely implemented here for display.
Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?
We have been able to pull this initial form (you will not see these powers while running a son), but we have not yet seen this system practically, which has left us a handful of questions about its behavior. For example, is Google just talking about the “Downloads” folder in your phone’s file system, or may it also include the saved content on your phone somewhere else?
We are also interested in “Backup” Documents“Text on the second screen. This may mean that Google does not intend to cover every last file type under the sun, and these backups may contain a more limited scope we thought about it initially.
Hopefully we are able to get some more insights about this behavior before being directly of this behavior. Some users can prefer these backups to just documents, but we would like to confirm in any way.
