Google is reportedly leaving support for the Steam for Chrome Book Beta program later this year. According to the report, Chrome Book users are trying to launch beta app. Now they are getting a popup message that they have been informed about the future closure. Mountain View -based Tech Dev has allegedly determined the date of plugging on the steam on January 1, 2026. After that, even pre -installed sports will be automatically removed from consumer devices. The company did not mention any reason for closing the project.
Chrome Box will soon stop supporting Steam Games
9TO5 According to a Google report, Google is now showing a message to all Chrome Book users when they try to install or launch Steam. For now, the son app works well, but the matter will not start in 2026.
The message is reportedly written, “The Steam for Chrome Book Beta Program will conclude on January 1, 2026. After this date, the game installed as part of the bet will not be available to play on your device. We appreciate your participation in learning from your participation and son -in -law, which will be the future of Chrome Book Gaming.”
Google first began the process of improving steam for Chrome Bok in March 2022 when the company started steam for the Chrome Bok Alpha program. By November 2022, the Alpha program was closed, and the platform was pushed into the beta phase, which reduced the hardware needs. In particular, the Chrome Bock uses the Linux version of the game for steam, and Google maintains 99 different titles that are compatible with the operating system.
However, despite the transfer of the son, the steam has not received any major update, and now the new message has closed the curtains on the project. Interestingly, support for steam in Google’s Push for Gaming Chrome Box played an important role. After January 1, consumers will still be able to play Android games from the Play Store. However, catalog is not similar to steam offers.
The only second option available for Chrome Book users is to choose such as Cloud Based Gaming Service such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce Now, or Amazon Luna.
