I’ve been on the Chrome band wagon for years and today it is my browser. But we just say, I am not fully loyal to Chrome. Over the years, I have eliminated a variety of browsers from the edge to the modern AI affected alternatives to see what I lose. And when I’m returning to Chrome, it’s clear to me that Google is playing it safe.
I am not fully loyal to Chrome, and that’s why I know it can do better.
Google has been so focused on stability, performance and integration of the ecosystem that it has lost some ambitions that have made Chrome interesting in the first place. Meanwhile, rivals like Edge, Volley, Samsung Internet, and even opera are quietly adding real useful features that make you a question why Chrome does not yet have. Don’t think me wrong. As much as we criticize Chrome, the basics are still attached to nails such as devices, a smart address bar, and unprecedented integration with Google Services. But that is why it should be better. With millions of consumers to reduce tight and widespread acceptance, it is time for Chrome to increase the bar with the modern feature set.
So here is a list of features. I wish Chrome just borrowed. In 2025, I will not call any of these features to game changer. But most of them are tablestics that make Chrome a better browser, which is great nowadays without compromising. Although most of these features are available in the desktop and mobile versions of the browsers, some are only available on the desktop version to calculate the screen space available.
Have you considered switching from Chrome to another browser?

Vertical tabs
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
If you, like me, are a fish for a wide screen display, you will know who I’m talking about. Once you use a vertical tabs browser, it is difficult to go back. Get Edge and Wildi with the right to implement the right that allows you to stack dozens of tabs with a clean side. It saves the horizontal space, shows tabs or icons, and only means for a wide screen monitor.
Once you use vertical tabs on a wide screen monitor, don’t have to go back.
Chrome still forces you to deal with the flowing tabs, which shrinks into the Fuccone size blades. With my use, even those Fivecin are not very viable solutions. Certainly, there are some extension that claims to be a vertical tabs offer, but the full keyboard does not defeat any local, polished solution with shortcut support and drag and drop management. For the consumers like me, who are constantly awakening dozens of tabs at the same time, the vertical tabs are no longer good. They are necessary.

As a writer on the Internet, I spend a lot of time doing research and, often, refer to interesting research in my articles, compare speakers sheets, or look for Google doctor when drafting an email.
One of my favorite features in the Vivalidi browser is his local ability to toss the spiral screen tabs that lets you see two tabs together. It seems that Chrome is a modest step about snatching with only two windows, but extra convenience makes a big difference in everyday use. Further, once you open a couple of these windows, believe me, it can be a job to pass through the dirt to find the right. A simple tab tiling feature that allows you to open two or more tabs in the distribution screen within the same window, especially for users who live in their browser all day.
Built -in screenshot and markup tools
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
It is surprising in my mind that in 2025, Chrome still does not offer a local screenshot tool, which is complete, or even with the capabilities of interpretation. Yes, I can use tools made in my Mac, but these are the basic steps such as taking a screenshot and sharing a section of the display.
It’s 2025 and Chrome still does not have the appropriate screenshot and interpretation tool. It’s just shameful.
Meanwhile, Edge allows you to capture a part of a page, mark it and distribute it immediately. Opera goes a step forward with text identification and meme templates. Chrome users are trapped in the third -party extension or system level tools, which lacks web context. Whether you are catching a quote, identifying a problem, or saving receipts, the built -in screenshot tools save time. If Google really wants to advance its first AI strategy, imagine a screenshot tool to connect with context tips or one tape copy paste.
Smart Sidebar
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
A browser sidebar has so much potential. Microsoft saw first and turned the edge side into a production center. You can take notes, use AI -based co -based co -based co -backed to control work with the webpage, manage tasks, or control the media playback directly from the side of your browser screen. Waveli offers a custom panel for social media, email, and RSS. The opera also offers an abundance of features like social networking and key books.
Chrome’s side panel, compared to it, feels like thinking. It is not really a sidebar to start, nor is it available to all users, but even when accessible, it lacks the extension of features, including other browsers. Why not let users pin tools like Cape, Gemini, Calendar, or Gmail in the Sidebar? Add support for Custom Wudget and suddenly turns into a complete blowing workspace for Chrome users.
Performance method
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
Chrome and bad ram management run by hand. In fact, the browser is a cartoon for jokes to be memory hog and contribute to poor battery performance. Although Google is working to fix this reputation, Microsoft Age’s performance method proves that browser can actively manage background tabs and power consumption without slowing things.
A high -performance toggle controls the hands of users.
Providing direct access to the energy efficient format to consumers causes better battery life on laptops, low -end rotating, low -end hardware smooth performance, and low consumer complaints. Who would have thought? Chrome has begun to develop here with features like memory saver and energy saver, but he is tied up in the settings and is not as effective as the Edge’s point of view. A dedicated form of clear toggle and real -time views can go far beyond.
Control of privacy
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
These days, with the ranking of privacy as one of the top users on the Internet, it is no surprise that it is a modern -day battle for browsers. And we just say that Chrome still feels like it is playing the ketchup. Given Google’s advertisement business interests, it is somewhat understandable. In terms of default, brave block tracks, such as a browser, safari show exactly which trackers were stopped, and Firefox provides you with a privacy score card.
Chrome’s confidential control feels as if they were designed for engineers and power users, not everyday users.
On the other hand, Chrome’s privacy tools feel like a developer experience more than the user facing feature. Basic things, such as clearing site data, management, or off -third -party cookies should be easier and more transparent rather than being deeply buried within menus and submarines. The dashboard with smarter defaults and specifications is easy to view that does not require an engineering degree that we need. But this is far from the things that get with Chrome.
More customized
Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority
I think we can all agree that Chrome is far from the most customized browser on the desktop or mobile. This is something that Samsung Internet does. Which buttons do you show in the toolbar and reset them according to your flow. Want a shortcut for download, share, dark mode, or desktop site toggle? You can add it.
Chrome, meanwhile, is based on a strict setting that has not changed over the years. Certainly, there are some other settings to add deep settings to the menu bar, but presenting the browser experience that is not really your own is the one who specializes in Chrome. Even the basic things like customizing the new tab page or moving the address bar is limited. Chrome can benefit significantly from giving users the interface to fit their habits and devices. For example, mobile users can prefer one hand control while desktop users want more shortcuts.
Being a default browser is no longer enough
For the browser, which is like chrome, you may be thinking that I am wrong to ask for more features. But adding an increase in quality of life brings work together to remove the heritage. Today’s best browsers maintain a balance between performance and functionality. Edge, Wilddy, and even arc browsers suggest that it is possible to be fast, clean and powerful at the same time. And many of these browsers are made at the same chromium base, such as Chrome.
Most of these features are no longer a game change. They are the only table stakes in 2025.
Google’s Chrome browser has the foundation and leakage to move forward with modern features, which once he decides to stop playing safely. If some of these ideas also enrolled in Chrome in a meaningful way, it may be fresh once again rather than defaulting because of being the most common option.
