The Online Safety Act was introduced in the UK. The law requires websites and apps to check age verification before allowing users to view the content that is considered to be clearly harmful or clearly damaged.

Despite the intention of the law, people are unhappy with handing over sensitive personal information to third party companies. Many people have turned to the best VPNS in an attempt to ignore age verification checks.

Supporters and opponents of the law have clarified their views, but questions are still being asked. People are wondering how their data is used and stored, what are the risks, and even asking whether VPNs will be banned.

We have drawn some famous questions together that people are asking and gives them the best answer.

What is an online safety act?

This is probably a good place to start. The Online Safety Act 2023 is a new law introduced by the UK government aimed at protecting children and adults online.

    How can your age confirm?

    • Photo id
    • E -mail address
    • Credit card / bank details
    • Mobile network information
    • Estimated the face age

In a explanation, the British government said that “children will need a platform to prevent harmful and aging from accessing inappropriate content.”

The main method of this is through aging verification. Users to access limited content from age, users have to prove that they are over 18. This may include submitting photo ID, completing a credit card or bank check, and uploading direct selfies.

Off work has the authority to enforce the rules and regulations and the law of penalties to those who are breaking the law. Fennel can be 10 % or $ 18 million of global income, which is higher.

What are the dangers of cybersonicity and privacy?

There are numerous privacy and cybersecurity risks through the Online Safety Act. Privacy supporters believe that the law imposes people’s online freedoms and argues that we should not need to hand over our data to browse the web.

CyberSocracy experts view it as a “catastrophic destruction”. We are relying on third parties to our most sensitive personal information, many of which are not based in the UK.

These age check providers store data for different lengths, but only one requires one to face data violations and people have a risk of serious consequences – one expert believes when it is, not.

We fully support the goals of the law, but we are not surprised that it does not cover personal data safety. There should be a balance between the safety of weak Internet users, but not compromising our data confidential and security.

Do the age verification companies store your data?

The answer is different among the providers. Personality, UT, and Ejagu are some of the most notable providers.

The person used by the Reddest says it has personal data “as long as it is necessary to provide service and meet your confirmation.” But it also states how you use the service and how the third party imposes it depends on how to collect data.

In the case of Reddet, the site says that Persona does not maintain your uploaded image for more than 7 days.

UT, which is used by Spatif, says it saves your data for up to 28 days, and does not have access to it. UT says that with the completion of age verification, some of its clients will create a service to delete your data.

Edigo says he “does not access or maintain your personal data during the verification process.” However, it uses third -party providers in the check process and only gets the results. Although it improves anonymity, these third parties are not disclosed, we do not know how they process and store data. From this we ask if it is safe to use Edigo?

Is my data being used for AI training?

This is a great concern to people and there is another question that is not a straightforward answer.

AI -powered age estimates are used by some age check providers. AI will analyze your face image, or even your browsing habits, to determine if you are over 18 years old.

Omar check providers, including Personna, have said that its services enable and understand that documents and their characteristics look like it.

Age verification on the social media app X is another, using its AI systems, using AI -based age estimates. The X -policy does not assure its age how its AI systems use this data. However, its extensive privacy policy states that it can use the data collected “to help train our machine learning or artificial intelligence models”.

So we will be careful to upload your information to providers using AI -based age estimates.

    Will every website check age?

Through the law letter, adult content hosted by any site or app will have to examine age verification and they are present on many famous sites. Reddit and X need age check as well as spots.

Complaints of legislative influence and non -intentional results were found. Reddest users have noted that the submarine has been discussed, mental health support, and combating addiction.

Wikipedia may have to introduce a check and as a result it is fighting the rules and regulations. The BBC reports that information and news covers conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine have also been blocked by age verification rules.

Reports of blocking this type of content are disturbing, especially at a time when Internet sensation and inadequate information are found to be highly found.

The British government has said that “the platforms should not interfere with or remove the content, and instead it should take a risk -based, proportional approach to the safety duties of children.” It also states that this law is “not designed to censor the political debate.” For this, “the Omar Gate does not need a platform that offers very serious risks to children.”

Will the government see my identity?

No, the government will not look at your uploaded age verification information.

Apart from passing the law, the government has no involvement in daily running or implementation-and this makes this process quite inadequate.

There are several ages check providers, which require a number of age evidence. You have to prove your age many times as not every site uses the same provider.

Some experts, and Internet users believe that the UK government should have set up a safe, government -driven, age check system and database. It will be more smooth and keeping just one database will reduce the risk of data violation.

    Will the government ban VPN?

Large VPN providers saw an increase in signup in the first week of the introduction of the law when people discovered ways to avoid age verification.

Proton VPN, Nord VPN, Opera VPN, and Surfsharsk’s choice – as well as free VPNS are also suspected – the Apple App Store’s top chart has increased.

In 2022, Labor MP Sarah Champion proposed an amendment to the online Safety Act – yet a bill – which will see off -work investigations will see if the use of VPN is damaging the Internet rules.

The amendment was not approved and on July 28, 2025, the champion responded to the news of the UK’s VPN increase. He said in a tweet that he warned the former government that this would happen and “protection of children should always be preferred.”

Very disappointing, I warned the last government that this would happen, but it was closed. Children’s safety should always be a priority. 😞 https://t.co/zmc7te1wwwJuly 28, 2025

The UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, has admitted that the use of VPN is increasing and that they will look “very closely” on how they are being used – however, they said they would not ban VPN.

Therefore, it is unlikely that the UK government will ban VPN.

Is Safety Act a good thing?

The law is well intended. The purpose is to protect children from seeing the material they should not and it can be just a good thing. Access to harmful content can be easy and children should not be mistakenly accessed.

However, as we have stated in detail, the enforcement of the law has raised serious concerns about data privacy and security. Therefore, while its goals are a good thing, the law is in danger of compromising us in other ways.

A request for the UK government to cancel the law is close to the signatures of 500,000. The government has said it will not abolish the law and Peter Kyle has said that those who want to end it are “from hunters.”

This kind of allegations do nothing but fail to admit their personal information and people who have real concerns about their protection.
