A new white paper has claimed that the semiconductor industry is losing billions of dollars, causing some outside the field to hear: stockstick changes.
This form of random patterning variation is now considered to be the biggest obstacle in achieving high production in the latest process nodes.
The article was co -operated by Factilia, based in Austin, Texas, which CTO, Chris McC, noted, “Stockstick variations are contributing to the delay of dollars in introducing modern process technology in high volume manufacturing.”

Mac further explained that the strategy to overcome the current process is not able to solve these random effects.
Mac said, “To close the stockstics gap requires completely different ways that device makers need to verify and adopt.”
The Factilia describes the “difference of stockstics” as to what can be sample in the research and to what extent can be widely manufactured in acceptable production.
The center of this space is a random pin that is connected to the materials, molecules and light sources used in the preparation of the chip.
Although these effects were not once, they now eat a growing part of the budget for manufacturing error.
“We have seen our customers making dense properties less than 12 nanometers in research and development,” said Mac. “But when they try to move it to manufacturing, stockstick failures affect their ability to achieve acceptable output, performance and reliability.”
The problem has increased with the height of EUV and high NA EUV lithography. These developments have also allowed chip makers to try small features, but also put them more at risk of stocking defects.
Unlike traditional variations, this type cannot be eliminated with strict control, it needs to be managed with possibly design and measurement techniques.
“The difference of stockstics is a widespread problem,” said Mac, Mac said.
