Two years later, threads are starting to look more and more like the X -most capable of challenging. It approved 350 million monthly users earlier this year, and Mark Zuckerberg predicted that it could be the next billion consumer app at Meta.

But threads are still not sending much traffic to other websites, which can less appeal to the platform for creators, publishers and others whose businesses depend on non -meta -owned websites. According to a marketing intelligence firm, similar equipment, outbound referral traffic in June went on 28.4 million visits. According to a similar web, it is a remarkable jump from 15.1 million visits a year ago, but still relatively low -minded threads are currently an average of more than 115 million users a day on its app.

Regular threads have long been suspected of eliminating posts with meta links. The common wisdom in the existence of the threads of the past two years was that consumers should not share links, or just share them as a basic post responses. Instagram chief Adam Mousesri, who also monitors threads, has also not encouraged you to connect. He said last year that the threads do not deliberately eliminate the links but “we do not take much value on them because” people do not like links much and comment more. “

However, Meta’s hesitation was not just about consumer preferences. The company was also concerned about how spammers and other bad actors could misuse links on the text -based platform. Recently, Meta has changed the course, and is taking steps to level more “good” links in the recommended posts.

“We are working to ensure that the links are properly ranked,” Moseri said in June. “For more than a month, links have been doing much better.” The company has also reinforced links on the platform, allowing users to add more links to their threads profiles and provide link analysis to its “insight” feature. “We want the thread to be a place that helps increase your reach – even out of threads,” Meta said in May.

But despite these changes, threads are still sending very little traffic to the websites. Similar web -based data shows that between May and June last year – when there were more than 150 million monthly users in the threads – it sent only 24.8 million references to outside websites. During May and June this year, that number is more than doubled, which increased to 51.8 million.

That number still suggests, though, most of the threads are rarely and rare, if ever, if they click on the link they see on the threads. Lia Huberman, a social media marketing adviser and author of the ICMI Newsletter, said she was not surprised. “People are still trained not to search for them, not include them, don’t think about them.” “You can’t just turn a switch and suddenly people expect people to embrace links.”

Publishers, a group that possibly post more links to threads than anyone else, seems to be watching important traffic from threads. The data provided by the chartbate, a company that provides analytics data to publishers, shows that the views of the publisher have almost doubled since the beginning of the year, which has increased from 8.8 million in January to 15.1 million in June.

Interestingly, according to both the same web and chart bat data for 2025, thread references in March. In the same month, threads sent 28.8 million outbound references to the websites, according to the web, while the publishers of the chart beet saw 25 million pages from the platform.

But although the latest statistics show that threads have increased significantly over the past year, it still represents a small proportion of publishers’ traffic. According to the chart bat, last year and one and a half threads have contributed less than the tenth of one percent of traffic regarding sites permanently. In comparison, Facebook references have participated in about 2 to 3 % during the same period, while Google Discovery has participated in about 13 – 14 % of the references. Even in other “small” sources of references such as chatigat, reddate and anxiety, threads are just ahead of the fact that they send it.

The threads also cited even a mild light compared to Twitter, which was never known as a major traffic driver before the capture of Elon Musk’s company. In January 2018, Twitter calculated 3 % of the views of publishers, according to the Chart Beat data Press Gazette. By April 2023, after the occupation of Musk, but before it branded the site on the X, the number was 1.2 percent.

The chart bat data is not a complete picture – the data provided to Enjet was based on an analysis of 3,000 sites that have chosen anonymous data sharing – but the slight increase in referral traffic looks like another major change this year. In January, Mark Zuckerberg’s facts and after a move to withdraw the rules of content moderation, threads also eliminated all consumers on recommending political content.

After this change, some publishers of political news, including NewsweekFor, for, for,. Polyteco And Forbes A growing incident in references from threads, DIGDAY Notified. But these benefits are not universal, and it is unclear why some publishers are benefiting more than others. Compared to Bluesky and X, “Traffic, subscription conversion, and overall conversion rates are significantly behind.” Of Boston Globe Platform VP Mark Caroline has recently shared on threads.

Although the growth of threads has not been obstructed due to its failure to remove users from the platform, it can be an important issue for Meta if he really wants to bring more creators to the platform. The company is also getting ready to switch on to advertising on the platform. The user’s base that ignores links can make the meta pitch complicated to advertisers, who are already cautious in threads. Meta refused to make any comment.

Heberman says the ambiguity of the links can be a sign of a major identity crisis that the platform is still facing. It has a large user’s base, but it is not always clear who is really the threads for whom. They are not known as the destination to follow the breaking news, such as Twitter was once, or as a place that had highly engaged subcuties. “Threads need to have a goal,” she says. “And now, it seems like a work -tips box where people are just throwing complaints and trauma.”

Whether smaller platforms can run traffic reliably on websites, this is a quick question. At a time when the online search feels as if it is getting worse, AI is rapidly replacing many searching and deepening the traffic to websites. Publisher, like Wall Street Journal Recently reported, especially these shifts are being severely affected.

It is unlikely to fill these gaps in the threads, even if referral traffic improves. And especially the publishers have enough reasons not to rely on the meta -owned platform. At the same time, there is a clear chance of playing a major role for threads in the aftermath of search. This has not only been a court for creators, publishers and small business owners, Meta, for a long time, which can help the threads establish their identity.
