In the public sector, the AI is no longer making the right news – earlier this year, the Open launches a special version of Chat GPT made only for US government agencies.
And now, the company doubles the push with this big thing: a new move called Open AI, which has made it a big deal with anyone other than the Pentagon.
Yes, Openi is officially working with the Defense Department. The DOD announced a $ 200 million contract with the company to produce modern AI’s tools, which includes the purpose of active cyber defense.
This is the first contract between Openi and DOD and it will last for a year, mostly focusing on operations in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia and around it.
As part of the move, Openi will offer limited access to federal, state and local agencies, as well as access to tools such as Chat GPT Enterprise and Chat GPT Government, as well as customs AI models created for national security use matters.
The DOD says the purpose here is to promote the capabilities of prototype AI to tackle major challenges of national security in the battlefield and in broader operational systems.
The deal, with a roof of $ 200 million, will bring the open -industry’s leading skills to help the Defense Defense identification and prototype, and how Frontier AI improves its management operations, improves service members and their families by improving healthcare, programming and programs. All issues of use are in accordance with the open AI -use policies and guidelines.

That last part is the key. Open made it clear that the use of any government model still has to follow its strict policies – which means that weapons are not developing or does not intend to harm people or destroy property. And let’s hope that this is really so.
In fact, the open is not the only one to join the military AI. Royal Company Anthropic just revealed a model that features more comfortable Guardials designed for US defense and Intel agencies. Even Meta (Yip, Mark Zuckerberg staff) came to light last year, allowing the government to use its Lama AI model for national security purposes.
And in the next decade, with a huge Trump bill to overcome the most restrictions on AI’s development, innovation can be accelerated – maybe very fast. And honestly, it’s a bit. When the brakes are closed, the rules often turn into the world of powerful AI tools linked to national security, it is a matter of keeping a keen eye.
