Govi Uplighter Floor Lamp Review
The Govi Uplighter Floor Lamp is a feature-packed smart light that combines practical lighting with vivid and eye-catching visual effects through preset scenes and custom settings.
Better still, at the time of writing, Govi is offering a $30 / £30 discount, bringing the price down to just £149.99 / £149.99, which is an amazing price considering it’s one of the best smart lights I’ve tested. Amazon has a similar deal, with the cost reduced to £149.99 in the UK, but it’s only $20 off in the US, so it’s worth buying from Govi if you’re buying from across the pond.
Assembling the uplighter was straightforward, although I recommend having someone help attach the lamp section to the pole if you have limited shoulder mobility. Alternatively, if you have the floor space, you can do what I did and line the poles with boxes so you can mount the lamp to it, but that’s a lot more wrong than assembling the stand.
Although the Uplighter is pretty lanky at 66.9 inches / 170 cm, it’s reassuringly stable thanks to its weighted base. It has a simple aesthetic when not in use. The majority of its exterior surfaces are plastic apart from the aluminum stand, which features a powder-coated finish.
I can’t help but find the lampshade somewhat unwieldy when not taking in the light, but that’s because I’m obsessed with how beautiful it is when the colors flow. Nonetheless, it has a nice finish, with a combination of clear and smokey black translucent plastic separated by a black band with a matte finish.
A small word of warning: the clear dome of the lampshade is easy to confuse. I accidentally dropped mine when I was testing the stability of the lamp when it gently knocked against the sloping part of my living room ceiling. It’s not noticeable when the sidelamps are on, but I still recommend taking extra care when upshifting about it.
The Govi Uplighter floor lamp had me hooked in seconds with the bright and colorful effects it offered with its wave light. The color-shifting Sidelight is also a satisfying factor, especially for someone as addicted to color. The downlighter also proved particularly satisfying in practice with its easily adjustable color temperature and brightness settings.
Govi says this lamp can emit up to 1000lm of brightness, and I can attest that the downlighter makes for convenient task lighting. The sharper brightness means that ripple effects are beautifully clear, even during the day, and it looks absolutely fantastic when turned up to 100% at night.

At the time of writing, only two elements of the lamp can be used simultaneously, although I’ve heard rumblings that we’ll be able to enable all three in the future. This limitation isn’t really an issue, and I’m sure some might consider using all three lights as an overkill. However, I would love it if I didn’t have to sacrifice any of the color elements when using a downlighter.
In terms of onboard controls, there are two buttons on the front of the pole, one for power and another for switching between scenes and color temperature. They work just fine, but I mainly use the Govi Home app or my Echo Dot (5th gen) to control my high.

The Gui Home app is the best app for smart lights I’ve used to date — and I’ve tested a bunch of them. After taking a moment to sync with the app, the app gave me access to a range of device settings, including preset features, the smart home assistant, and content syncing.
More surprisingly, there’s a boatload of preset scenes, from multi-colored aurora effects to ripple light floating miniatures to themed side and downlighter combos. There are plenty of opportunities to tweak effects, too, with DIY and AI creation sections, as well as adjustable speed settings on many of the existing scenes.
There’s also a handy AutoRun feature, which is great, especially if you don’t own a smart home assistant—it lets you assign different scenes and settings to specific times of the day.

In summary, this is a fantastic, multi-purpose lamp that makes an eye-catching feature, while also providing adjustable and convenient task lighting. So, if you like the sound of a Govi Uplighter floor lamp, I recommend you buy one to experience its memory and color display for yourself.

How I Tested the Govi Uplighter Floor Lamp

I used the Govi Uplighter floor lamp to light up my bedroom and living room ceilings with colorful love for a few weeks. I also used the downlighter as a soft source of light in the evening as well as task lighting when needed.
