With a new global update, WhatsApp users will start watching ads on the app.
According to the Meta Newsroom, the ads will only appear in the “updates” tab – a separate tab below the app, which shows both “channels” and “status” features. Users can subscribe to friends and other public channels, and are equivalent to Instagram membership and “stories” features.
“The updates tab is the place where you find something new on the WhatsApp – whether it be a friend’s status or the creator’s entertaining channel – and now they use 1.5 billion people daily globally.”

“Now the updates will be able to help the construction and development of channel organizers, organizations and businesses.”
Today, @WhatsApp is introducing new features in the updates tab (such as channel subscriptions, promoted channels and ads in status) without changing anything about your personal chats (they are the end of the encrypted expiry). https://t.co/agscs7n1O6June 16, 2025
The WhatsApp will introduce ads in three ways on the latest tabs: through channel membership, developed channels and ads in status. Channel subscriptions will work with the content paid on Instagram, which will allow users to subscribe to their favorite public channels and receive special updates for monthly fees. In terms of developed channels, businesses will be able to pay new consumers to expand their contribution.
Businesses can also promote products and services in status quo, when clicks connect the audience with chat.
How will the ads actually work on the WhatsApp?

The WhatsApp will target ads in the same way with Facebook and Instagram. However, it seems that the third -party ads will be less interfere with the user’s experience. Meta notes that users’ messages, calls and status “stay encrypted from the end to the end, which means that no one can see or hear them”.
WhatsApp advertising will be targeted by consumers on their age, country or city, in which they are located and language. Advertising will also be targeted on the basis of the channels they are following in the app and how they interact with ads.
Users who have chosen to connect their WhatsApp account to the Meta Account Center Hub will be given their advertising preferences and information from the meta accounts.
The meta will develop these features in the coming months and is already demanding businesses and channel admins demanding new features. As always, we will continue to update you how the WhatsApp users end up this-and will these ads remain unpleasant in a long time.
