Today, Meta has announced that she is bringing ads to the WhatsApp. They will appear in the updates tab, which is home to both channels and status. Meta says the latest tab is now used globally 1.5 billion people per day.
There will be ads in the status quo, which will allow you to “find a new business and start conversation with them about a product or service that they are promoting the status.” There will also be developed channels, which are also advertising. “When you are looking at the directory, you will help discover new channels that can be interesting to you,” says Metaa.
Together, channel subscriptions will allow you to pay a monthly fee to get a special update from the channels. This is not related to ad, but is a new feature announced today. Meta thinks that limiting ads and subscriptions in the latest tab “away from your personal chats” will ensure that if you only use WhatsApp to communicate with friends and loved ones, “your experience has no change”.
Your personal messages, calls and locations are finally encrypted. To show ads in the rank and developed channels, WhatsApp will use information like your city or country, language, channels that follow you and how you interact with your ads. If you have added WhatsApp to the Meta Accounts Center, your Meta accounts will also use your ad preferences and information.
Meta has promised to share your phone number with advertisers, and that your personal messages, calls, and your group will not be used to determine your ads. All these features are starting “slowly in the next several months”.
