The list of Netflix Top 10 is changing permanently as new titles are added to the streaming service each week. In this case, Tyler Perry’s latest psychiatric thriller has taken the No.1 place after premiere on June 6.
The “straw” follows a single mother whose already delicate world has begun to fall in just one day. Since the pressure increases at home, at work, and in the system, to protect it, she pushes herself to an important place. What opens is a story of a stress, emotional charge when someone reaches their last straw.
I am not surprised that “straw” has taken the crown because it has all the ingredients. As a thriller with the help of crime drama elements, plots, and a famous filmmaker, it was almost inevitable that the new release would be at the forefront of the US Trending List.

After unexpectedly fired from her job, she returned home to seek the eviction notice at the door of her apartment. Her daughter, who is suffering from a chronic illness, needs immediate medicines she cannot afford.
Beyond and out of options, Jennah seeks to seek help through legal channels, but at every turn is found with apathy and red tape.
A world has been attracted to its limits that permanently turns away, it faces unpredictable decisions at a place where help never comes and hope is very low. Forcing everyone around him to cope with that when a woman moves her important place.

One thing for which I will give “Straw” credit: Since the start of its Netflix run it is easily one of the strongest films of Perry. It seems that most of its releases are shooting straight in the upper part of the chart, but it is one of the rare places that really gets its place.
First, the film does Not Stop the emotions, make sure that every moment gets hard enough to move or disappoint you. It opens quiet, deliberately life’s life with quiet colors and daily details such as washed dishes. As the story moves forward, the pace creates stress to pull you completely.
Within just 24 hours, everything is separated, and you soon realize that Jennah is only experiencing more badly. This includes losing his job before taking children’s services and accessing his money. After that, a police officer collides with his car, threatens him, gives him a ticket and ties it. She was evacuated, her luggage left in the rain. And when she returns for her last salary, she gets caught in a deadly armed robbery.
These are very amazing things and you immediately want Jenia to do a happy. Of course, with most of Perry’s work, happiness is not always guaranteed.

At the center of this thrilling film, Taraji P. Hanson’s powerful performance and one of the reasons is that I was bent so much because of it. She is completely in the heart of Geneaia, and is struggling, and leads to an emotional acol, which stands as the most unforgettable moment of the film.
This makes you wish you are intensely similar to the rest of the film, because unfortunately, “straws” are quite guilty, especially when it brings another plot point around the FBI.
This thrilling is also sometimes bent over his emotional beating, and enters the melodarama. Scenes like Juniah fall into the rain and feel screaming in the sky, and the rapid rise of intensity breaks the audience’s immersion. Some moments, like this rain scene, are even made cheap.
Not mentioning the end of the turn is likely to make the viewer feel contradictory. Although it has added an unexpected layer to the story, I personally feel that the effect of the film can be even stronger without it. But still, whoever enjoys a good turn can put himself in a pleasant surprise (and even more hearts break).

“Straw” is not the weakest task of Tyler Perry, but it struggles with most of his familiar matters. The story has been overloaded with clear symbolism, excessively complex plot points, and forced emotional moments that do not go enough.
Nevertheless, if you enjoy severe psychological thrillers, it is worth a watch, and thanks to the extraordinary performance of Hanson, it gets a large number of places. I am not the only one who thinks so.
At the time of writing (June 9), “Straw” has a score of 77 % of the audience on the tomatoes, in which viewers have termed it “powerful” and “emotional”, in which Hanson’s acting has been described as “best”. Five out of eight critics are also positive, which proves that “Straw” is one of Perry’s most strongest films to this day.
Now you can stream “straws” on Netflix. However, if you are not feeling it, see what is new to Netflix this week or watch our guide about new movies and shows in June 2025.
