I was excited to upgrade to iPhone 16 last fall. After spending five years with my good, but old iPhone 11, I was ready for all normal facilities: a better battery life, a better camera and (especially interesting for me) Barbie pink color. What I didn’t expect was that my iPhone 16 would come with one but two new buttons: action and camera control. And one of them will rain completely on my parade.
Action button volume is a small button above the adjustments. This is introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models and this is a custom button that can do anything by turning your color on your Duncan’s coffee. It is small, demolished and keeps his business in mind.
This is a camera control button that causes all chaos.
The camera control iPhone 16 lineup has a new button that according to the name: It controls your camera. The purpose is to help you snap photos fast and work as a shortcut to launch your camera app. You can slide your finger to adjust your camera zoom in addition to other things through the mini settings menu. But there is a real reason for the existence of the button: AI.
Like every other tech company, Apple is investing a lot in artificial intelligence. We are expecting any development of the company at the developers conference around the world next week since it launched its suit of Apple Intelligence features last year, and has been told what AI will play in the next generation of its software and hardware.
Apple Intelligence has been the stimulus behind the company’s innovation. For example, the camera control button is the physical way of visual intelligence, a new AI -powered feature that allows you to use your camera to scan items in the real world to find more information about them. It looks faster, but it’s absolutely meaningless to me, and it is a feature I have never been willing to use.
There are also other cases used for the camera control button, including ways to customize your button settings, as my colleagues have found through their testing. But does not change the fact that the camera control button is completely Anxiously.
This is a long button, about the size of the power button, which is located on the lower right of the device. And it’s very easy to tap by accident. I have opened my camera while putting my phone in the pocket, when I’m driving and using navigation apps and once I was turning off my phone for night, which opened the camera app all night and removed my phone’s battery.
And if it was not disturbing, every time I really intended to open my camera through camera control, several tapes were to do so. Go to the data.

I ask you: What is the point of this button when you don’t need it and when you do not work? There are already three ways to access your iPhone camera from the lock screen that take seconds to use. Camera control for iPhone 16 is a very expensive, extremely incredible addition, many people do not need nor use it for the features of AI. Not a moment came when I turned off the camera that I lost it. So even if Apple announces some major updates of visual intelligence in WWDC next week, there is no way that I’m voluntarily returning it.
I realize that my grips with camera control are minor complaints that have been a overall positive experience with my new phone. But as an AI reporter, I cannot help but I can see it as a disturbing sign. Many tech companies have improved their software and devices to become e-friendly, even if they are spamming with Gemini popups in Google’s Google app, Microsoft Windows Laptop or Apple Camera Control button on the New Co-Coopelot button.
Tech companies are desperate to go to the AI train and they have not even thought of whether using their products in these features increases our experience or just descending. And not enough offer outout options. Thankfully, I and my camera roll, Apple. But I hope that in the future, such stringent measures will not be necessary because companies are more deliberately with their AI-Nabling features.
