Most of the rumors around the next iPhone model have focused on thin, light iPhone 17 Air. And it’s logical – it’s a shiny new toy.
But let’s go back to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, one of the traditional models of the iPhone. Apple is not forgetting the top of the line model, and you may not be.

Here is the size of each device (though remembering, it is a dummy unit and dimensions may change when the phone is launched):
- IPhone 16 Pro Max: 8.25 mm thick
- IPhone 17 Pro Max: 8.725 mm thick (rumor)
It is about half a mm thick. Although this is not much in the great scheme of things, it shows that Apple has no worries about making the most thin, the lightest phone possible.
People who buy the Pro Max model (including themselves) prefer the biggest screen and the best features, and the size is not particularly concerned.
