Kenya has ordered Sam Altman’s World Web 3 project to remove the collected biometric data from its citizens. The Nairobi High Court said that the controversial Human ID Project has failed to obtain the right consent from the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) office before receiving the eye scans of Kenya’s citizens to get their global identities. Neither the world nor the opposite has yet reacted to the development.

The World Project, whose headquarters is in the United States, aims to assign global citizens as “international identity” as “international evidence”. These IDS will eliminate the need to share their personal details for people for web -based interactions.

In August last year, representatives of the project had set booths in several parts of the world to collect people’s Iris scans through a machine of their kind, called more. Spain and Germany are among the other regions that have faced problems in the world’s biometric collection in the past.

    What happened here

Justice Aborili Rosalin has directed the World Project to permanently delete photos and eyes scans of his Kenyan consumers. A seven -day window has been released to the world to comply with the court orders. A designated data protection officer will oversee the process.

The court has prevented the world from collecting more biometric data from Kenyan citizens.

The Katiba Institute and the International Commission of Faqiya (ICJ Kenya) headed the trial against the global project, and argued that its data collection methods were unpleasant and dangerous.

Katiba Institute’s lawyer, Joshua Moldzo Niava Is called Development for the right to privacy is a winning moment. The Institute also published a detailed review of the court’s decision on X (formerly Twitter).

The reversal of the Kenyan decision is yet to be answered.

    History with Kenya’s World Plan

In 2023, Kenya became the first country in the world to bring the global project, earlier, under investigation, was called “World Coin”. However, in 2024, the country ended its investigation on the Altman’s Web 3 project.

In June 2024, Kenya officials asked Altman to register its global project with the Data Protection Commission (ODPC) office and the Kenya Communications Authority (CAK).

However, the Katiba Institute and the ICJ Kenya have alleged to the High Court that the project was violating the rights of Kenyan citizens, which collected their data without necessary government permission. Both parties Were presented His arguments to the court in March 2025.
