    Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority

As a journalist and an enthusiast of productive apps, I have used more notes taking notes than I care about acknowledging. Google Cape, One Note, Simple Nut, and Open Source Tools have been a part of a large number of weapons taking my notes at one point or another. To make sure, some of them were excellent, some less, while other people like Google Cape and One Note became an important part of my workflow.

Google Cap, in particular, has been a permanent partner for its simplicity, quick notes and wide web -based availability. Despite its relatively limited limited feature set, the colorful sticky note format feels like an extension of a dozen or more sticky notes on my work desk. But since my notes requirements have become more complicated, they cannot maintain its limits, Ahmed, cannot remain.

I have used more note -taking apps than I care about acknowledging, but only one has replaced them all.

Keeping is not the only note -taking app that I use regularly. I was an early adoption of the Microsoft One note and after the fall of Avernot, it was plummeted. In theory, it packs every feature of mine, including easily linking with rich formatting and other notes. However, the app is very high, too much, too much, the app to use everyday. I am looking for something that can handle me both serious work and quick notes without sinking my notes or worthy of their notes. Looks like a long order.

That’s what I thought until I searched the sketch. It is an open source app that sits in the cross section of taking notes and managing personal knowledge, and has completely changed both Google Google Cap and One Note for me. Why is it here

Does Google maintain your basic note -taking app?

An interface that works for you, not against you

    Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority

My biggest grip with the One note is his incredibly disorganized interface. In the normal fashion of Microsoft, it is a productive tool that experiences a surprisingly annoying user experience that prevents productivity rather than helping it. The Google Cap is the opposite. This is a very naked bone. Outline attacks a rare balance by offering a clean interface that lets your notes shine while still provides all the tools you need only one click. The app takes a lot of inspiration from the concept, but it improves with more fluid offer. There are no unnecessary menu bars or floating tool bars, and even though embedded large pages in the current note, there is no interval effectively. When I initially started testing the outline, the powerful performance was a huge performance, and it is equally fast today. When you open a page, it’s ready to type for you and start taking notes. When you write for a living, this immediate access makes a big difference.

Sketches, speed, simplicity, and serious work to handle the rare balance affect the balance.

The second feature that sold me on the sketch was Mark Down Support. For those who are not closed on the mark down, this is an effective way to tag your notes in full format and it is shown exactly in platforms and apps. I like it

Although Google supports all the usual options for Capted formatting such as Bold, Atlas, and Bullet points, it is not that strong. On the other hand, one note goes away from the deep end. Try to export a document and see the proprietary mess you get. In fact, when drafting an article in the One Note, I could not copy and paste the document in my CMS because of the sheer quantity of Kraft because of it.

The sketch is made with the Mark Down in mind. What you write is effectively simple text with tags involved for formatting. These documents can be opened in any other Mark Down Editor, which makes it a dream if the document is as important to you as it is for me. There is no risk of losing formatting or cleaning your copy. In addition, this Mark Down Support has made it easier for me to import years of worth of notes from other Mark Downs editors that I have used.

A self -hosting center that is fully in your control

    Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority

I have another disappointment with Google Cap, lacking its structure. Although the labels are a good first step and some extent helpful, there is no real way to easily link each other. The One Note tries to solve it with parts and notebooks, but this is not particularly independent of the modern tools.

Unlike Google Cape, the outline allows you to create notes, documents and media living networks.

Outline takes a page from Wikipedia and allows you to create a coordinated academic system. You can create links between the pages, just like a wiki. This helps to avoid copying of information, and if you are working on a major project, you can link notes, documents and more directly to your basic document. This is a great improvement on domestic pages. Since someone is deeply hosting and productive games, I keep notes on interesting apps I am trying, and they are all connected to a master document that describes my current stack.

Mutual integrated pages are the only benefit that offers sketches. This app works with a wide range of intercourse without interruption, which manages external information and manages to manage and access. For example, you can toss the Google Sheets in the link and offer to embed the sketch document, which will be completed with the ability to communicate with the preview and sheet. Similarly, you can embed presentations, Figma art boards, air table documents, and more. This deep integration goes beyond these bound contacts.

If you are deploying a sketch for a small business, you can connect it to a working -based messenger. This integration allows you to search and share the sketch documents directly from the chat window. This is incredibly useful and something that is not possible with a Google Cape or One note. If you want to advance the app further, you can connect it with zipper for unlimited automation. You grabbed my elder.

There is no proprietary lock in them, just simple text files that you completely control.

Although all these features are excellent, there are some other aspects of the sketch that sold me. You have seen that the hostess of self -host and data is very important to me. Although I am not opposed to the use of cloud services, I always try to maintain each file, document, or an offline of the picture, self -host copy. However, both Google Cape and One Note store your data on their respective company servers. As easy, are important trade. You have to trust that your data will always be safe, the service will always be around – I am looking at you, Google – and privacy policies will not change. In everything, I just don’t have enough confidence in a company.

The sketch is open source and offers the host alternative with a straightforward simple. You can run it on your server, perhaps a synology NAS, or even host it to VPS to get easy access to online. Although it lacks restoration, backup, and security, it is a compromise that I am comfortable. Of course, the company offers a cloud hosting alternative for price, and if the rest of the feature sets are looking for you, the sketch is still a great choice. But to me, the data owned is the biggest appliance.

    Dhu Bhutani / Android Authority

On this note, there is another feature in the outline that appeals to me. Data ownership is nothing without data transfer. Open source apps can also stop growth. If you have tried to export the documents from a Google Cape or One note, you will know how cumbersome it may be. Export options are limited, and document structures are burdensome through design, making it difficult to transfer these documents to another app.

Outline mark down view guarantees that your notes are just files in a folder. Back to them, copy them, harmonize them, or import them into a completely new app that you are enjoying more than the outline. There is no proprietary lock here.

Why sketch to take serious notes

As I like to try the latest and largest productive apps, my switch from Google Cape and One Note was not just about pursuing new brightness. I needed to solve a very real problem in my workflow. And despite being transformed into a sketch, I have not yet maintained. Instead, I use it as a scratch pad or sticky note, such as grocery shopping or quick notes for fake lists.

The sketch has gained a permanent place in my self -host stack and I do not see myself going back.

But for the notes that I make for research, long -shaped writing, journaling, or, the matter of this matter, the outline of what I need is what I need. The app has a depth and feature set of commercial offerings, all the benefits of self -hosting, which are important to me, and an interface that goes out of the way to facilitate production capacity. They all like to take notes and manage personal knowledge. I’m just not watching myself once again for a Google Cap or these tasks.
