The largest contract in the world, Arizona, plans to keep an American fabric in the P3, producing modern chips made on the company’s 2NM process node by 2028 initially and by 2030. TSMC has a client list such as Apple, Qualcomm, AMD, Medetic, NVIDIA, and more. Has been reportedly under construction of fib, and according to a Chinese language report Trade times Website, we can see TSMC manufacturing 2nm chips in the United States before expected.
Trade times The TSMC says that with next year, 2nm chips can be produced in Arizona. If true, this will happen only one year after 2nm production in Taiwan begins. It is important to point out that the Commercial Times report is not similar to the official TSMC timeline.
Making such modern chips in the United States is a huge advantage for states, especially when you believe that China’s top foundry, SMIC, is currently limited to making chips using a process node that is not less than 7NM. However, speculations are being made that SMIC can produce chips using a 5NM process node by the end of this year. Since US and Dutch officials prevent China from acquiring the latest lithography technology, SMIC is limited to using old lithography machines and multilateral techniques. The latter runs the silicon wefer through an enching process at least four times with the appropriate alignment to achieve the correct transistor density and features.
When the TSMC began construction and staff of its first Fab in Arizona, the project was designed to work in the ruin and Taiwan -based employees due to cultural differences among US employees, who were assigned to work in the United States to help Fab start well. In fact, the 5nm chips were to be removed from the assembly lines in the United States by 2024, which was converted to 4nm chips (which is still considered in the 5NM class) by 2025. Finally, 4NM chips started shipping during the fourth quarter of 2024, and delivery this year will increase.
As we have stated above, officially, TSMC should not start producing 2nm chips in the United States by 2028-2030. However, with imposing tariffs on imports from almost all US trade partners, there is a sense of urgency in transmitting some modern chip manufacturing to states. Once all six fibers planned for Arizona are completed, TSMC expects it to produce 30 % of its high chips in the United States.
Making chips built in the United States is one thing that President Donald Trump wanted, and regardless of how you feel about them, this is a situation where you have to give credit where credit is owed. Kidos to President Trump The United States now has the opportunity to run with it and they become a global leader in cutting chip manufacturing.
