On July 28, Twitter co -founder Jack Dorsie released a free, new open source messaging app in the Apple App Store, called a bachelor’s mesh, or bachelor. Dorsi unveiled the new app on the first Twitter, X, in early July, and called it its “project” on the weekend.

If you download the batch and think that you will see a polished messaging app with access to all your contacts, including your friends and family, you have been badly mistaken. There is an easy -to -be design and it relies on Bluetooth for the message data transmission. Although it is open source, it means that anyone can inspect the Source Source Code of the risk, unless the app gets a third -party audit, you should be careful about protecting it.

Before downloading the messaging app, you should know about the bart here.

    How do I contact people?

The bachelor does not use your contacts, phone numbers or other traditional sources of connecting people-does not require internet connection, Wi-Fi or cellular data. Instead, the app relies on a Bluetooth mesh network to work. This means that you make a network by contacting other devices within your limits, and those devices are connected to other devices that are within their limits, thus increasing your own access.

The app’s site states that “Better creates ad hoc communication networks using only the devices in physical proximity.” “Each device operates as both the client and the server, automatically discovers the ages and releases messages in numerous hips to enhance network access.”

So more and more people who have the app and use, the network can be as larger, which makes the bachelor’s longer than traditional Bluetooth signals. But this is like a mesh router system in which you can only interact with other people who are part of the same network. So you can’t message anyone in a different continent, but if enough users are connected, you can give someone a mail off.

“Aaron” is the name I gave a barte account on another device in my home.

Nevertheless, you don’t really connect with people as we usually think – you don’t send invitations to people to connect. Instead, when you open the app, you see a number in the upper right corner of your screen that shows you how many people are in your network. For me, this number is one – but it’s one of my devices, so it’s really zero. Blessed, I experienced my home comfortable batch and I hope that there is no unexpected here, using bachelor or in another way.

If you tap this number, a menu spread from the right side of your screen that shows who is connected. You can tap a person’s name in this menu and send them a private message away from the main chat.

When others are in your network, you can send a message to the main chat and they can see it but that message is going to everyone in the network. It is better to start a private chat if you just want to talk with another person.

When someone enters your network, the app can send you a notification to tell you that you can chat with them.

For now, the music festival, party or other large group setting can be a good way to keep people in touch. But if enough people use the app, its network can extend a lot, and you can use it effectively in more and more situations.

Does the Bacht have any other messaging features?

Better is very naked in terms of features, but you can do some things other than sending messages.

If you tap a person’s name, you have the option of sending a private message, blocking or hugging or slapping them. Sending a private message and stopping someone is very self -described. Hugging throat and slapping someone is like a Pox from Facebook. They don’t really do anything except create a message in the chat that you hugged or slapped someone – and if you slap someone, the message states that you slap them a little with trout.

    Whatever but big trout!

As you screenshot any message, a chat notification has announced what you did, which is helpful for transparency. You can tell if someone has used your conversation for a screenshot.

Otherwise, the bachelor is a simple, no frying messaging app.

    How safe is the app?

The batch is open source, so anyone can inspect the app code for risks and other issues. Already, at least one user reported a danger, which Dorsi addressed. Security researcher Alex Redosia raised the issue of verification inside the app in a July blog post. Dorsi responded to the post and implemented the noise protocol framework. According to Dorsie’s white paper, this framework provides people with the abstraction of paper from the end to the end “safe, private and censorship -resistant communication”.

However, Dorsi published a security warning for the app on the Gut Hub. “This software has not received an external protective review and may contain weaknesses and does not necessarily meet its described safety goals,” Dorsi wrote. “Do not use the use of the production of production, and do not rely on its safety until it is reviewed.”

Although the Batch is open source, a security audit will provide peace with a famous third party. From messaging apps you need to trust that the app is keeping your messaging data and while third -party security audit is not foolproof, it is an indicative of a significant confidence and transparency. Until then, you should be careful how safe the app is.

Overall, this messaging app can be used to keep in touch with close others, but only be aware that it still needs a third -party review to find out how safe it is.
