- Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch 8 series introduces the “Battery Protection” feature that is designed to extend the device’s battery longevity.
- This feature works by stopping the charge at 90 AT and only resumes when the battery level decreases by 85 %.
- This prevents the battery from sitting at 100 % charge, which reduces the tension and helps slow the long -term battery collapse.
Most people do not upgrade their smart watch every year, until nothing is better or the battery is reduced. Unlike smartphones, however, most smart watches do not offer strong battery protection features, which limit your ability to increase your longevity. Fortunately, more smart watch makers are starting to introduce these tools, Samsung is the latest to do so in its new Galaxy Watch 8 series.
On the previous Galaxy Watch models, Settings> Battery The menu just list two options under the “charging” section: “Show the charging information” and “Auto Power On.” The former controls whether your watch shows your battery level when it is fully charged, and the latter determines that your watch automatically has power when you connect it to a charger.
Establishing my Galaxy Watch 8 classic, however, I saw a new, third option named “Protection from battery. This new feature prevents your watch from charging when the battery level reaches 90 % and then starts to charge when it falls to 85 %.

Such a feature is important because keeping a device permanently with a lithium -ion battery on 100 charges can shorten its age due to a high condition of charging spaces. This is why many smartphones offer similar reservations, though they usually charge up to 80 % instead of 90 % of the Galaxy Watch 8. Although the longevity of the battery is even better and even better, the smart watches have small batteries, so Samsung did not want to increase this charge for fear of harassing the user’s experience.
Regardless of, it was great to see that the Samsung Galaxy Watch would add a meaningful feature of battery protection. We are hoping that Samsung will bring this capacity to old watches with an UI 8 watch update, but we will certainly not know until the company updates.
