- Samsung’s One UI 8 will enhance its direct information feature by adopting the new “direct updates” of Android 16 for third -party app support.
- This new API allows any app to make direct, issued notifications, limited to the first -party Samsung apps from the previous version.
- This feature is currently available in the One UI 8 beta behind a developer flag but it is expected that the final stable release will be able for everyone.
When Samsung released an UI 7 earlier this year, it introduced direct information, which is on Apple’s direct activities. These notifications make the ongoing activities on the lock screen and notification panel more visible, but they launched with a major negative side: only a handful of apps, most of which are from Samsung, can create them. This is turning into an UI 8 update in the future.

Since an UI 8 is based on Android 16, it can take advantage of a new basic feature called “direct updates”, which offers similar functionality for direct notifications but can be used by any third party app. Thanks to the latest son, we are already peeking a secret that will be seen in the process.
In Google I/O, Google confirmed that Samsung would directly connect the notifications as well as direct updates to its now bar. Even the company shared a short animation showing how the Uber Ets notification would look like when expanded now.
After the release of an UI 8 son 3, my fellow Zachary Qi Danis saw a new developer option named “Direct information for all apps.“

After togeling it, the refreshments directly from synchronous apps began to appear in an UI status bar and now repeatedly like direct information. Currently, there are no publicly available apps that support direct updates, so I had to use the Google sample app to test this feature.

Given that this is a son, we are not surprised to see that direct updates’ support is locked behind a developer option. However, we will be surprised if this is the case when the stable version of an UI 8 ends. Nevertheless, Google has already confirmed that Samsung will directly support updates, so it would be surprising that users turn the developer switch to work for this feature.
