Google undoubtedly collects consumer data from Android phones. However, a California jury has found that Search Dev will have to pay $ 314.6 million for “misuse” of Android phone users in the state.
Reuters It is reported that the jury supported the defendant, who filed a class action case by about 14 million California in 2019. The litigation argued that Google had collected data from useless Android phones without permission. This data was collected for the purpose of the target advertising, in addition to other uses, using users’ cellular data in this process.
The plaintiff Attorney Glenn Summers has allegedly said that the ruling “proves the merits of the matter forcibly and reflects the seriousness of Google’s mismanagement.”
A Google spokesman said Reuters The decision is “misunderstanding services that are important for the security, performance and reliability of Android devices,” he said, adding that the company will appeal. Google also told the court that consumers have agreed to transfer these data as part of company’s terms and privacy policies. He claimed that these methods did not harm any Android users.
However, this is not the only case on this matter. A separate case filed by 49 other states makes the same claims and the trial will be allegedly in April 2026.
