Two people familiar with the matter said that Apple has brought the Tata Group to handle the repair of iPhones and MacBook devices in the fast growing Indian market, indicating the Indian party’s deep role in the US Tech Dev’s supply China.
Since Apple is looking forward to China for manufacturing, Tata has rapidly emerged as its key supplier and already collects iPhones for local and foreign markets on three facilities in southern India, one of them also produces some iPhone components.
Both sources said that in expanding its latest partnership, Tata Taiwan’s Western is taking over from an Indian unit of Western, ICT service management solutions, and will then repair the Karnataka from the iPhone Assembly campus.
As an iPhone sale, the world’s second largest smartphone market, the market for repair, is only on the rise in India. Counterpoint research estimates that around 11 million iPhone sold in India last year, which gave Apple seven percent market share in 2020, compared to just one percent.
The latest contract award indicates the growing confidence in Apple’s Tata as it is expected to win more business from the world’s most valuable smartphone company.
“Tata’s deep partnership with Apple can also lay the foundation for Apple, who sells directly -based devices in India, as how it happens in the United States,” said Prabhu Ram, Vice President of Cybermedia Research.
Both sources said that the ICT was occupied by the TATA, both sources said, who did not authorize the matter.
Apple and Western did not respond to the comments requests, while a Tata spokesman refused to comment.
Although Apple’s government services centers can maintain basic repairs across India, they now send phones and laptops to facilitate more complex issues.
One source said that Western’s ICT will continue to serve other clients except Apple.
India is also emerging as a favorite destination for iPhone exports, during an upcoming threat to US President Donald Trump’s prices. Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that most iPhones sold in the United States will be made in factories in India during the June quarter.
