Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 8 next summer, and a report out of its home country of Korea today has some interesting details about the former.
The Flip 8 will reportedly be at least 10% thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It will be a maximum of 6mm thin when opened, 12mm thick when closed, and weigh around 170g. This will be the key for Samsung to get 10% better sales for the Flip 8 and Fold 8 compared to the Flip 7 and Fold 7. The company has apparently set a sales target of 6.7 million units for the upcoming foldable.

The plan to make the Z Flip 8 thinner and lighter comes as a result of the fact that sales of the Flip 7 have been relatively weak. And it all certainly makes sense, especially considering how Samsung’s Chinese rivals have focused on thinness and lightness for their foldables in recent times.
Samsung is also reportedly concerned about Apple entering the foldable arena in 2026. While that could expand the overall foldable device sales ‘pie, Apple could also lure away some of Samsung’s customers, and one of the things the Korean company is trying to stop is making the Flip 8 more appealing.
And it’s also about time – this year, the Fold 7 became significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while the Flip 7 remained more similar to the Flip 6. So, if this report is true, next year the Flip will get basically the same treatment that the Fold enjoyed in 2025.
