We recently argued in the office and wanted to get your input too – when you are looking for a specific dimension (thickness, width, height), what dimensions should the phone find for foldable phones?

First, let’s examine this problem. We list two thickness dimensions for foldable – for one when the phone opens and for one when it is closed. The closed thickness is doubled with open thickness, but this is not true because the hugs add a little extra and it varies from the phone to the phone.

Similarly, there are two numbers for width on the book style foldable and the height on the flip foldable, depending on whether the phone has been folded. Once again, a number is nearing double the second, but the occupation makes things complicated.

Right now how the phone Finder works now. When you use sliders for thickness, width and height, you get results based on the open condition of the phone. Is this the best way or should we wander things?

For example, the first sub -10 mm foldable was an important milestone. But as it stands, there is no easy way to find foldables that are below 10 mm – if you set the slider to 10 mm, all of this appears because the filter looks at the open thickness, which you may not expect.

You just can’t drag the slider to 5 mm (half desired thickness). There is a fine rule of thumb, “Fold thickness is almost double double thickness”, but in practice it doesn’t work much to filter search results.

About width and height, for the book style and flip, respectively for foldable? Open dimensions are important because they give you guess how the phone will fit in your hand. Pair dimensions are important because they give you guess how the phone will fit in your pocket.

So, should the phone find the folded or open dimensions when looking for the search? Or may it depend on the style of the foldable, the couple thickness and the upper width/height? This may be quite confused, however, the search used in search will vary from the phone to the phone – especially when you find a mixture of foldable and regular phones. What do you think? Vote down and share your views in comments.
