- A permanent Big 4K 30FPS video causes the Pixel 6 Pro camera to fall when switching from 1X to 4X during video.
- Despite being presented in early February and spreading over a number of updates, there is still no official fix.
- The customer service allegedly accuses hardware, which requires warranty repair.
Although the Pixel 6 series is a few years old, the flagship phone still has enough life. Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are promised that they will get an update up to Android 17, which means users are still waiting for users to stay in the latest Android version next year. However, especially with Pixel 6 Pro, not everything is good, as consumers have long been complaining about a broken video recording via telephoto camera, and there is still nothing right.
Allegedly, when recording a 4K 30fps video on Pixel 6 Pro, the camera app will crash if the user will turn from 1x to 4x zoom. The app will show the crash message: “There is a problem, some part of the video must have been saved.” As a result, the video will be saved at the moment when the phone tries to get into the 4X camera.
The initial report I can see is from February 2025, but there are many reports in Google issue trackers (1, 2, 3) and Reddate (1, 2, 3). The issue was viewed on Android 16 beta, but the latest Android 16 stable update also does not fix it. Disappointing users have tried to reset their phone, but this problem remains. Some users contacted customer care, which allegedly called the problem a hardware error that needed to be repaired outside the warranty.
We have tried to copy this problem on our Pixel 6 Pro, but we could not do so. We can go back from 1x to 4x during 4K 30fps video recording.
