NASA’s Tribes Mission Twin Satellite was launched on July 23, 2025, to study how solar activity causes magnetic recovery in the land environment. After the launch, on July 25, the irregularities of a power sub system affected the satellite (space vehicle 1, SV1), which periodically reduced communication. NASA said that satellite 2 (space vehicle 2, SV2) is “healthy” and the transfer device is launching the commissioning phase. The idea behind the Tribes was to develop a complete tool cut that allows us to observe all these complex processes of the solar air connection for the first time. NASA Engineer is actively working to recover SV1. Single Vector Views (SV2) The spacecraft is completing a healthy checkout and reading itself for its science mission.
Recovery efforts for SV1 satellite
According to NASA, the controllers discovered a problem in the SV One’s Power sub system at the end of July, causing intermittent contact and communication loss. Statistics show that SV1 can remain active only when its solar panel is sufficient to light sunlight. Due to the current orientation of the spacecraft, engineers intend to wait until the end of August – when SV One panels get more sun – to re -establish contact and continue recovery measures.
Meanwhile, mission teams are reviewing the ship’s data to diagnose the issue and plan the next steps. At any time the contact is regained, the team will evaluate the status of SV1 and examine the impact on the mission’s science goals. For now, no significant update about SV One is expected for several weeks.
SV2 Operational Status
The second satellite of the mission, SV2, is good health and fully operational. Mission teams are examining SV2’s equipment and systems through a standard commissioning process. The checkout is moving forward as expected, with NASA expected that commissioning will end by the end of August.
Once the SV2 is fully examined, it will launch a process of connecting science with its twin children to study magnetic rehabilitation – how solar activity affects the earth’s magnetic environment. For now, the SV2 is under its planned test and will soon be ready to collect valuable data from science as part of the Tribes Mission.
