Samsung’s display arm has a new foldable display brand called “Montrex”, which is primarily a company’s way to highlight the latest foldable display.
The name of “Montrex” comes from the French word Mont, which means “Mountain”, which Samsung says is a symbol of innovation in foldable display technology. The company will formally launch the Montilex brand in the Korea Display Industry Exhibition (K -Display 2025) on August 7.
Although no specific device has been confirmed yet, it is highly likely that the Montelix Display will be able to offer next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Plut 8, which can offer further upgrades in design and stability.
Samsung says every letter of “Mont” reflects a significant power of its next gene foldable OLED:
- M: Mechanically durable, with better folding reliability
- o: Opto mechanically providing a clear screen with a flat, minimal crease
- N: Tight bells for a more prolonged display
- T: Thin and lightweight, enhance the portability
This means smooth folding, a thin profile, and a screen that looks like traditional glasses.
In the announcement of the Montreaks, Samsung also cited the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Foldable Panel, which can be tolerated up to 500,000 times. Although the company has not officially confirmed whether the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Flutte 7 uses 7 Montelix Branding, the introduction of this new name strictly indicates that future devices, possibly Fold 8 and Philip 8, will use it.
Foldables have made a long journey since the original galaxy fold. Samsung’s early models were fragile, showing concerns about visible crazing and stability. But today, Samsung is claiming half a million times without failure, and anyone there is being manually examined.
