Microsoft is eliminating support for Windows 11 SE next year, five years after launching the operating system on a low -cost laptop that was designed to compete with Google Chrome Box. Windows 11 SE was available only on devices devices of educational users, such as schools, and it had to persuade them not to convert to Chrome OS.
“Support for Windows 11 SE – including software updates, technical support, and security fixes – will expire in October 2026,” says Microsoft. Dr. Windows. “Although your device will continue to work, we recommend transfer to a device that supports another Windows 11 edition to ensure constant help and safety.”
Microsoft will not release its upcoming 25 H2 update for Windows 11 SE, which means that the equipment will remain at 24h2 by the end of next year. Acer, Asos, Dell, Dynambok, Fujitosu, HP, JK-IP, Lenovo, and Pozitu have formed all Windows 11 SE laptops, and Microsoft has also launched its $ 249 level laptop SE in 2021.
Microsoft has tried to compete with Chrome OS several times in the past years and has failed. The software maker had previously developed an S -mode that closed Windows 10 on Microsoft Store apps, but when the store did not have enough apps, it eliminated disappointing users.
Windows 11 SE adopted a similar approach by encouraging schools to use progressive web apps (PWA) instead of traditional One 32 apps. IT Admins had to make the Expeditions of Devices devices running 32 apps, and Microsoft maintained a strict list of apps permitted for Windows 11 SE.
Microsoft’s decision to eliminate Windows 11 SE was a year later when Gartner warned that Chrome Box “was losing market share because of its limited customer base and inferior construction standards.” Since 2022, Chrome Bok’s delivery has been decreasing, and it seems that this year the PC refresh cycle is focused on Windows 11 upgrades instead of exit in Chrome OS.
