    • Google had earlier announced that it would end all Go.gl URLs support on August 25, 2025.
    • The company has changed the course and will actively preserve used short links.
    • The link, which was sent in 2024 to a message stating that the link would be disabled, would still be disabled.

It is difficult to believe, but Google launched its URL Shortener tool in 2009. Although the device was closed in 2018, Google confirmed that Go Dot GLURL would continue redirect to their desired locations. However, Tech Dev announced last year that he would stop supporting these links after August 25, 2025. Anyway, it was a plan, but after that the company has changed a slight heart.

Google has updated the blog post where it has announced the closure of Google URL shorten. In the update, a Mountain View -based firm says it has revised all the go.gl URLs to stop cooperation. Earlier, despite claiming that 99 % of these links had no activity in June, Google says it received feedback that some actively used links have still been embedded in countless documents, videos, posts and more.

As a result of the input received by it, Google declares that it will adjust its approach to actively used links. However, this is not a complete face, as the company still plans to close some URL.

Tech Dev says he would rather target the inactive links instead:

Nine months ago, we redirected the URL, which did not disclose any activity at the end of 2024, stating that the link would be disabled in August, and these are the only links that have been targeted to be inactive. If you receive a message that says, “This link will no longer work in the near future”, the link will not work after August 25 and we recommend that if you are not already recommended transfer to another URL shorten.

Google has confirmed that active links will be stored and will continue to work as usual. You will be able to check if your link will remain active by clicking it. If that link redirects you without a message, it should be safe.
