The Online Safety Act came into effect on Friday, July 25, 2025. The purpose of this legislation is to protect children from access to harmful and clear content online, but potentially come with the dangers of destructive privacy.
Consumers who are hosting “clear content” sites now have to prove that they are over 18 years old. Credit card checks, AI -powered facial age estimates, and uploading a photo ID are just some ways that can be done.

Google’s trends showed a significant increase for the term VPN in search traffic in the UK, with the UK’s VPN and the free VPN.

The search for Nord VPN and proton VPN saw a large number of increases. Surf Shark saw a moderate increase in searches. Express VPN and Molwood also saw an increase in search, though other VPN providers are smaller.
This clearly shows that people in the UK do not feel easier to hand over their personal data for age checks and are looking at ways to ignore them.

How do VPNS check age verification?
Right now, VPNs are used to ignore age verification checks.
When you go to a website, the site and your Internet service provider (ISP), may see your IP address. If your IP address is from the UK, you will be welcomed by age verification checks and accounting requests.
