    • Android’s Linux terminal app can now run graphical linux apps in the latest canry blood, which is an important step for this feature.
    • A new “Display” button launches a graphical environment, which operates users full desktop apps that are not available on Android.
    • Hardware acceleration can also be enabled for better performance, and even more powerful Linux software and pave the way for playing.

The Linux terminal app that Google introduced earlier this year is an interesting new feature in Android, not for it, but for what it potentially. The terminal app allows you to boot an example of Deban in a virtual machine, which allows you to completely run Linux apps that are not available on Android. Unfortunately, the current version of the terminal app is limited to running the command line program, but it is about to change in the near future. In the new Android Canary Blood released today, the terminal app now allows you to run graphical linux apps.

Earlier this year, we operated a Dom’s Linux port in Android’s terminal app to showcase the app’s upcoming graphical capabilities. For months, the Google Linux terminal has been working to include hardware acceleration support and a complete graphical environment, but the company has never pushed these features to any public construction, which requires us to compile Android from the source.

After installing Android Canary Blood of July 2025, however, we saw that the terminal app had been updated with graphical app support. When you open the terminal app in this blood, you will see a new button in the right corner. This button begins the terminal app’s “display” activity, which sends the Graphical Output from Linux VM to the Android host.

Once on this screen, you can type the ‘Weston’ command to open the graphical environment. Weston is a modern display server protocol, a reference to a Wellland composer, and it is already installed with Android’s Linux terminal.

In a graphical environment, we were able to launch apps like a basic text editor, gadget. We did not try to run the punishment again, but you can see that the video we have recorded earlier this year looks like.

By default, hardware acceleration in the Linux terminal is not active. To enable it, you need to create an empty file called ‘Virginner’ and keep it in the ‘/SDCARD/Linux’ directory. If you see a toast message in which you read “Virginable” when you open the Linux terminal, you have done the job correctly.

The addition of graphical app support to the Linux terminal is a big deal, as it opens the door to run many useful Linux program that is not available on Android. It also opens the door to run PC Games in the future, though more work will need to be done to make them compatible, especially since most Android devices have ARMCPU. Regardless, it is a huge step in plans to connect Google’s Chrome OS and Android to the same platform, so we are excited to see how matters move.

Although this feature is active in the latest Android canry blood, we do not know when it will land in beta or stable channels. We are hoping that Google will start it in the second quarter of Android 16, which is set to begin in December. However, there is no guarantee that the company will do so.
