QI 2 25W was unveiled on Wednesday as the latest wireless charging details of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). The latest standards are actually called QI V2.2.1, but its marketing name is more memorable, and the WPC claims that Android smartphones and Apple’s iPhone will include assistance for new specifications. It is claimed that 70 % more electricity should be offered from Qi 2 (15W) synchronized devices. Android smartphones that support QI2 25W will offer the iPhone’s wireless charging speed equivalent to Apple’s megasaf 2.
The WPC says 14 devices and accessories fought Q2 25W certification
An announcement by the WPC states that the new QI -2 25W details will be adopted by “Major Android Smartphones”, but there is no mention of which incoming smartphones will offer assistance for wireless charging. Apple’s iPhone model, which already supports the company’s Magsaf 2 specification, will also support Q2 25W charging.
In 2023, the WPC introduced Q2 Standard, which offered to help wireless charging on 15W compatible smartphones. Unlike the previous Qi -certified smartphones, which can be charged at 7.5W using synchronous accessories, Qi2 and Q2 25W compatible devices must be equipped with magnets to align the charger to the rear panel.
However, the smartphones are just a few hand sets like the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and the HMD Skyline, according to QI 2, and is only equipped with the latter magnet that offers proper support for QI 2 charging. Other device manufacturers offer help through cases equipped with magnets.
It is worth noting that Samsung recently surveyed its users about wireless charging on their smartphones through members app. The South Korean firm allegedly asked users if they would prefer a smartphone equipped with magnets for wireless charging, even if it had made the phone more thicker due to additional ingredients.
The WPC says the “fourteen devices, recipients and transmitters” examined the Q2 25W certification as part of a limited launch, and will soon be tested “several hundred” devices. However, it is unclear whether the majority of them are charging accessories, or smartphones. In the coming months, the level of handsets may be with Q2 25W wireless charging support.
