An executive of the company revealed in a community post on a social media platform that Nokia is currently looking for a partnership with “massive” mobile manufacturers to produce their phone. The company is currently tied up in a global licensing agreement with Human Mobile Devices (HMD) Global, which also owns its phone division. Since, in 2024, HMD Global started marketing under its branding to Nokia devices, so Nokia could look for potential ways in which it could sell smartphones under his name.
HMD Global and Nokia Licensing Deal
In a Reddate post, the Nokia community manager called on “massive” mobile manufacturers, who are interested in looking for mutual cooperation opportunities with the brand, to reach them through their website. This shows that the company can find ways to sell phone with Nokia branding as the first 10 -year licensing contract with HMD Global ends in 2026. However, it is also likely that the deal has been renewed because HMD owns Global Nokia’s mobile division, which it purchased from Microsoft in 2016.
ONE of the context, one can see what has been revealed between 2016 and 2024, which has utility on the current scenario. HMD Global, who was formed in May 2016 by former Nokia executives, decided to come together to restore the Nokia brand to its former glory. To get it, the company signed a 10 -year licensing agreement with Nokia to manufacture and market its phone, which was briefly sold by Microsoft under the Lumia Branding. In addition, in February 2024, HMD Global decided to launch Android smartphones under its branding, in which Nokia branding was essential to its smartphones, and limited it to some feature phones.
These developments may now be looking for out -of -partnerships in Nokia, as in 2026 it will be free to sell its license to another manufacturer that can manufacture, market and distribute smartphones with Nokia branding. However, neither Nokia nor HMD Global has officially revealed about its future plans about what will happen when the contract ends next year.
According to Nokia’s annual report of 2023, the company has seen a decrease in its sales, but its patent licensing agreement managed to keep the company happy. Therefore, the importance of both patents and technologies is the importance of the company’s financial affairs. Similarly, its trademark and manufacturing agreements are important to stay relevant to the Nokia brand.
