- The new Galaxy Z Philip 7 is the first in the Clem Shell Foldable Lineup of Samsung, which helped Samsung Dax, converted it into a compact, portable PC.
- The Dax provides a complete experience of desktop on the external monitor and works with the wired connection, even when the phone is turned off.
- Although a powerful addition, it lacks the ability to use the core screen as a touchpad, a feature that is competitive on the Razr phone.
Samsung’s Clem Shell Folding Phones have always been real flagship in terms of sugars and performance, but they have left behind their big book style counterparts in an important field: productivity. For years, the Galaxy Z Flipline lacks the Samsung Dex Support, which prevents users from converting to portable PC. This contradiction ends with the new Galaxy Z Philip 7, which now becomes Samsung’s most compact phone that can double like a portable PC.
Samsung Dax is a desktop mode experience that is connected to an UI. Instead of mirror the screen, the Samsung phone with Dax Support shows desktop -like interface on the external display, which is completed with a task bar that shows the bottom apps, notifications and system information. Dax mode apps forcing apps to launch in floating windows with title bars like PC, which controls the window to minimize, maximize or close the window.
Samsung introduced Dax to his flagship Galaxy S series in 2017, and later extended this feature to its flagship Galaxy tab and the Galaxy Z Fold Lineup. Due to thermal concerns, Samsung chose not to enable any of his former Galaxy Z Philip devices. However, the company has clearly resolved these issues in the Galaxy Z Philip 7, which explains the start of its long wait on the Claim Shell Foldable.

When Samsung announced Dax support for the Galaxy Z Philip 7 last week, the company’s press release caused some confusion. There were questions about whether the Galaxy Z Philip 7 supports wired dex and if this feature works when the device is folded. After experimenting with my review unit, I can confirm the answer to both questions.
You can plug in external display or smart glasses to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7, even without opening the phone (unless you unlock it). From what I can tell, the device offers a complete, unambiguous dex experience, and makes it equal to the Galaxy S and Z Fold Series.
Unfortunately, Samsung did not enable the Dex TouchPad on the cover screen, which in my opinion is a chance to lose. Although many apps are very small, the core screen is the best size for track padder, and Z. Philip 7’s compactors make this character more suitable for this role than any other Samsung phone. The fact that Motorola’s RazR lineup offers this feature makes Samsung’s error even more disappointing. To be fair, new Razr phones lack wired desktop mode, which gives the Galaxy Z Philip 7 an edge in this department.
Most people are not aware of how powerful their phones are, just because the software often limits that ability. Dax is a feature that really shines the Samsung phone, even if it has some rough edges compared to traditional desktops. However, the future of Android’s desktop experience looks bright. With Google working to connect Chrome OS and Android to the same platform, all over the day of desktop experience are counted. It is hoped that when the platform level improvement finally ends, the Galaxy Z Philip 7 will still be firmly running.
