Nothing has reduced the phone (3) KPWM rate, which the company says should take advantage of the display performance. Initially, nothing phone (3) had a rate of 2,160hz PWM, but a software update turned it into 960 herits.

In a statement sent to the Android Central, nothing says that the change will happen only when the display runs on a low brightness. The phone (3) display is still able to support the rate of 2,160Hz PWM technically, though the company has not confirmed the level of change.

We have received display performance on low brightness, which produces the best quality image with this latest rate, so we have preferred image quality for final retail software.

    – Any spokesperson, July 18, 2025

Nothing is explained in detail as to why the change was necessary, but it will apparently be part of the final retail software.

    What is a PWM rate?

PWM is one of the things that, if you know about it, has a good reason, but if you have never heard of it, you are not alone. This abbreviation means a Plus width of the Model, which plays a key role in the O LED’s control brightness. What PWM does is to turn and turn off the pixels quickly, and forcing your eyes to think that the display is dim. For the majority of people, PWM is an innocent technology, but others are not so lucky. Most often, the adverse effects of low flicker rates are limited to eye pressure. However, more and more PWM sensitive people may experience more severe symptoms, such as headaches, nausea, and vertego. Due to these adverse effects, the rate of a high PWM is not only considered specially by some consumers, but also necessary. The problem can be so tough that PWM’s sensitivity is a complete sub -dd.

However, nothing is a smartphone brand that is focusing on the PWM rate. The rumor is that the PWM rate may be higher in the Pixel 10 series. Other brands, such as Honor, are stepping into this series with phones such as Magic 6 Pro, which supports 4,320 Hz PWM dimming rate when the brightness falls below 30 %.

I think the change should not be more transparent, and may also have the option to give priority to the PWM rate rather than the image quality. Leashing is very important, especially when we are talking about essential devices like smartphones. For many people, the quality of the worse is a good trade to be able to use a smartphone without adverse effects.
