Weltrox AF 16mm F/1.8 FE: A minute Review
It is often not that a lens caught you from the neck screaming and demands attention, but this is what the Wilitrix AF does 16 mm F/1.8 FE. It is one of the most impressive lenses used in a long time, which does not benefit from the volatics pro or lab series labels, which does not benefit from the weltics’ pro or lab series labels. This is not the best, it is not the most expensive, but it is incredibly impressive for several reasons.
This is a bold statement if I have ever made one. But this lens, which is perfect for scenes and astronomy, is incredibly priced, produces excellent image standards, and offers professional level construction quality and features. How Waltrix has succeeded in creating this quality lens at this price is beyond me.
Veltrox AF 16mm F / 1.8 FE costs only 464 / £ 533 / AU $ 899, an incredible price for professional performance and excellent image quality, weather seal lenses. Sony’s own Sony is a direct rivalry per 16mm F / 1.8G, and its cost is $ 848 / £ 849 / AU $ 1,799, so Waltraks offers the best price for the amount – and the EVERY is almost every higher and heavy than the Volcrox Sony.
In addition, the Sony version relies heavily on lens improvements, while the weltrox is optically best without the need for improvement. I admire that many modern lenses rely on the lens lens improvements to achieve their excellent image quality (and compact size), but you can easily not defeat perfect images closely in terms of sophistication, distortion and scratch.
Weltrox AF is one of the best Sony lenses manufactured for 16 mm F/1.8 Phil frame cameras, as well as it is also available for Nican Z Mount. So far there is no word on the future version, such as for El Mount.

Weltrox AF 16mm F/1.8 FE: Design
- Compact yet heavy design
- Sealed on the weather
- Excellent handling
We have already covered the price of this lens, and you generally expect that blood quality will hit such a competitive price, but here is certainly not. The body and weather have been sealed in the 16 mm F/1.8, which gives it indefinitely premium look and feeling. It is more emphasized by the colorful digital screen that shows the lens information – more about it.
The construction of 19.4oz / 550G is a sufficiently heavy animal by weighing 16 mm F / 1.8, but it is well compact at 3.35 x 4.06 inches / 85.2 x 103 mm, and well balances with Sony Phil frame and APS-C mirror lace cameras.
This is unlike Sony F / 1.8G per 16 mm, which is very small and light on 2.91 x 2.95 inch / 73.8 x 75 mm with a weight of 10.7oz / 304G, but it is an optical inferior lens as well as much more expensive.
The construction includes 15 elements in 12 groups, including four ED glasses and three esophageal lenses. The purpose of the optical design is to provide sophistication, detail and high contrast while minimizing distortion, and it achieves it because we will discuss the performance section.
The front element is standard in its design rather than the bulbs, which is great, and it includes an HD Nano Multi -layer coating that includes water -prevailing antifoling coatings.
The filter thread is 77 mm, which is for an average wide angle lens, usually from 67 mm to 82 mm. This means that you can use both circular and square filters for astronomy and landscape photography.
The minimum focus distance of the lens is 10.6 inches / 27 cm, which is great for landscape photographers who want to use focus stacking to get pin -faster images from the front.
In terms of control, you get a excellent wide manual focus color, a manual aperture color that can be stepped through the switch on one side of the lens or steps, two customized FN button and an AF/MF switch.
There is also a USB-C port at Lens Mount so that you can connect it to the Weltrox Lens app through Bluetooth to update the firmware, customize FN buttons, and customize the digital screen welcome screen.
Weltrox AF 16mm F/1.8 FE: Performance
- Fantastic image quality
- Infectious sophistication in F/1.8
- The best corner in the corner
It is a sharp and wide prime, which means it has excellent ability to collect light for astronomy. Such a wide field and a combination of visible light amounts of light in high -speed F/1.8 aperture light.
Of course, F/1.4 will be better, but its lens will need to be too high and heavy. The length of the focal landscape is also very excellent, which can benefit greatly from the image quality, capable of producing 16 mm F/1.8.
The image quality manufactured by this lens is terrific, with the best sophistication across the frame, even in the corner, is widely open to F/1.8. This aperture creates the most important as you expect. It almost disappears when you stop at F/2.8 and go completely on F/4.
Here is an Adobe Light Room Lance Profile that can deal with it and its small, not too high is the amount of barrel distortion. There is only the minimum color obstruction, so it is optical impressive lens.
The sophistication is very open and increases to the sweetness of the lens, which is F/8. The sophistication on F/11 begins to see the disparity you find in F/16, and while the F/16 is completely usable for landscape photography, the spread on F/22 is very high, so it is best avoided.
The colorful digital screen is a feature we are seeing more on the weltics lenses, and this is a unique and beautiful clean feature. It simply shows focus distance, aperture setting and active FN control, and I find it most useful when I have manually focused on a point and need to copy this focus distance quickly.
Autopox is not the fastest. When it comes down, the lens takes about 0.5 seconds to lock the articles, and is open about 0.25 seconds wide. This is not great, but since it’s a lens that you do not usually use for action articles, it is not a big problem.
Auto -Fox is driven by an SMT step -by -step motor, which is calm but is only worth hearing. AF is fine for landscape photography, while Astro photographers will use manual focus exclusively to focus on stars.

How did I experience the Waltrix AF in 16 mm F/1.8 FE
- I tested the lens in a two months
- I used it to capture scenes and estrow photography
- I experienced it with Sony A7R v
In several weeks I experienced an unforgivable Sony A7R V, shooting scenes and astronomy for 16 mm F/1.8 FE in several weeks. I took pictures in a range of aperture settings to check the sophistication, distortion and obstacles.
I shot mostly to see how the lens performed in different situations, while others were particularly shot so that they could compare the results with other lenses.
With a 30 -year experience of photography and working as a 17 -year photography journalist, I have used many cameras and lenses that have been released. As a working photographer, my goal is to test cameras and lenses from a photographer’s point of view.
