Microsoft is improving the Settings app with Generative AI and a new agent that is designed to help you find yourself in the settings and make things quickly.
Right now, using the settings effectively, you need to know what you are looking for and where it is. There is a search tool, okay, but still you need to take care of the name of the sequence. Of course, experienced users naturally visit the interface, but more regular users can struggle with it.
For these people, Microsoft is now introducing AI assistant to the Settings app, which aims to guide you through the System Config.
AI agent is not a chat boot, such as, copelot. It is actually made directly in the searches of the app. This allows you to find sequence options by explaining an issue or by changing you to change.
Even what is cool that you can use to use the natural language whether it is wrong or what you want to do. The AI agent will then display the relevant settings, and it can also automatically take steps to implement the changes.
Generally, this new AI agent is less than the search device but is really like an assistant.
This is not the first time that Microsoft has played with this idea. The company has previously tested a similar feature with the co -pilot. This version was internally known as “Coopelot Tips” and was designed to help by offering recommendations for your activity -based settings.
But, of course, this co -operated feature was abandoned. Now, this new AI agent has been replaced in settings.
How to use Settings AI Agent
You need to keep a co -coat+ PC to take advantage of this new assistant. Basically, if you want to try it, you can only open the settings app on your laptop and use the search box to explain what you want to get, or if you are having any problem.
When typing the AI agent, things should start suggesting in real time. When you recommend a setting, there will also be the “applied” button (for example, enable the sound access), and clicking it will automatically activate this feature.
Unfortunately, the feature is not yet perfect. Each inquiry does not go to AI to find the relevant feature, and sometimes, the easiest tasks can confuse it.
MU model is giving it power
Settings are powered by the AI agent MU model in the app. It is a small language model (SLM) that runs on a completely on device. Microsoft says the model does not need internet connection and is actively processed with a natural language input with your laptop’s NPU (nerve processing unit).
It produces more than 100 tokens per second. Basically, this means that the feedback is almost quick.
But the formation of the system is not very easy and it requires the identification of the exact intention. Microsoft, allegedly, first tried to use the Laura Tund model for this task, but it responded very slowly and was not suitable for the experience that the Tech Dev was looking for.
The MU model was sharp but not very accurate. The company has then worked on it to improve its accuracy by scaling training samples and increasing it hundreds more settings.
The model was trained on real user questions, indicators and user data. Microsoft claims that MU performed well with multi -word questions. Short questions can be answered through search box search functionality, and for this reason the model is integrated into the settings search box.
Without guessing vague orders, the MU is also designed to prioritize the options that frequently accessed options for quick results.
As I have already mentioned, this AI agent is only available on Cooplot+ PC. Right now, it is available through the Windows Internal Program, and its official rollout timeframe is not yet clear.
