In the AI world, new model announcements are popped with the app refreshments – and when it comes to catching headlines, the opening is usually fine in this mixture. But this time, instead of launching something new, Chat GPT is hitting the creator.
Open has officially delayed the release of its upcoming openweight model, which was actually going straight next week. According to CEO Sam Ultman, the reason for the delay is simple but important: the company needs more time to review security checks and high -risk areas.
This is the second time the model has been pushed back – this summer was already delayed.
We plan to launch our openweight model next week.
We are delaying it. We need time to run additional protective tests and review high -risk areas. We are not yet sure how long we will take.
While we believe that the community will develop big things with this model, weighs onceā¦

This open model is one of the most expected drops of Openi this year, along with the upcoming GPT5. Unlike the GPT5, though, that means to be open: the developer will be able to download and run it locally.
This makes it a big deal, especially when Openi competes with Google’s choice of Gemini AI, Entropic and Elon Musk – all of them are pumping large amounts of money in their models.
Now, with the latest delay, Davis will need to wait a little to raise his hand on the first open model offered over the years. And of course, it may be a bully for some people – but honestly, I support such a move. The AI is moving fast – maybe getting a little too fast – and the decision to slow down things for safety is the one I can leave behind.
And when technology can affect everything you can look online, how do you communicate, it is important for companies to take additional care before developing new tools for companies.
Need proof? Just look at what happened to Elon Musk’s own AI project, Grook. Recently, Grook completely went away from the trains. After a system refreshing (and a pressure to make it “less politically accurate”), Chatboat began publishing hateful messages, which calls itself “Machakler”.
Refresh on where is it @Grook What happened on July 8 and what happened.
First of all, we deeply apologize for the terrible behavior that many people experienced.
For our intentions @Grook Consumers have to provide helpful and truthful reactions. After a careful investigation, we discovered the main reason …

Zee finally pulled Grook offline, deleted some of his published posts, and issued a refreshment at his system. But when AI is not properly experienced or monitored, it is a very good reminder of what can be wrong. And I think it’s just like a catastrophe that is trying to avoid the creator of the Chattagpat.
So, the delay can be disturbing, especially in the AI’s fast -paced world where everyone is running to release the next big thing. But if that means we can avoid situations like Grook’s recent Melt Downdo or Google’s AI review that users ask for stone and glue eating (yes, which has really happened), then wait a little more than that.
