The starlink has brought millions of rural Americans for the first time high -speed internet. It is one of the most expensive internet service providers in the country. So, how is it available at $ 15 a month in New York?

If he wants to sell the Internet in the state, he has no choice. This is a thankful Broadband Act, a state law in New York was passed in January.

The law states that the major ISPs working in New York (which serve 20,000 households or more) will have to offer projects starting at $ 15 per month with a download speed of at least 25 MBPS for qualifying households, or with a minimum download of 200 MBPS with a low download speed of $ 20 per month.

The price “will include any frequent tax and fees such as broadband service and use fees needed for the service providers to get a rental fee.”

Some providers, such as AT&T, chose to exit the state instead of offering discounted prices as needed by New York’s law.

Households are eligible for these projects if they have an annual income of up to 185 % of the federal poverty level – 59,477.50 – or if they participate in programs like the National School Lunch Program, Medicide or Snap.

The Star Link published a general questionnaire page on its website in June, which described its New York’s cheap broadband service plan, which was reported by PCMAG. –

Like the country as a whole, it is also the main obstacle to adopting the Internet in New York. According to the 2023 data from the Banton Institute for Broadband and Society, in about 30 % of the households, households under $ 35,000 do not have the Internet in the state, while compared to 13 % of the households, 000 75,000 to 75,000 dollars and only 4 % for households.

But access to a sharp and reliable Internet is still a challenge for many rural New York. Recent FCC data shows that about 3 % homes in New York do not have access to FCC’s minimum broadband speed definition: 100 MBPS download and upload 20 MBPS.

Representatives of the Star Link did not respond to a comment.
