In the early July 2025, NASA’s astronaut Nicole “vapor” Iris threw a rare image of a large red “spright” trend torn over thunderstorms, as it wandered around 250 miles (400 km) from the ground. Spriots are short, luminous columns that cause power out of power. Aires noted that holding a place of release is a “excellent view above the clouds” and helps scientists analyze these ridiculous events. The Sprite appeared on July 3, 2025, on the clouds of storms spread over Mexico and South America. The viewing view is similar to NASA’s spiriticular urban science project, which mobilizes images of spirits and other upper atmosphere.
Rare ‘spright’ trend explained
According to NASA, Spirits are one of the “minimum considered” and most visible upper atomsafire. They are short columns of the Red Light that flash high on Thunder Clouds, which are active with powerful power attacks. Statistics show that spirits often have a height of 50 miles (80 km) above the earth. These fleet bursts take different shapes.
In the image of the Irris, the sprite looks like an Ultimate Scarlett umbrella spreading in the sky. Each Sprite Flash lasts in just a few millions, so each photo provides valuable data. Observations of orbit and land are creating a clear picture of these mysterious storm events. For example, NASA’s Juno Mission even recorded flames like spright in the Jupiter environment, which suggested similar power processes on other worlds.
Crowded sourcing spirits
To collect more data about sprouts, NASA launched a spiriticular citizen science project. Through spirits, camera volunteer research can present the brightness of the upper environment. In the project’s website reports, more than 800 volunteers from 21 countries have uploaded about 360 360 sprights since the beginning of 2022. Every partnership helps scientists to map where and how the spirits occur. The image of the Iris ISS contains a valuable approach that meets citizens’ reports.
Space.com notes that several members of the ISS staff have begun photography of the orbit, reinforcing the data. Springal Principal Investigator Dr. Berco Kosar says the project will “eliminate space” between comfortable observers and researchers. NASA scientists say a lot of questions about how and why the spirits are “not responding”, so more images can help to code the mystery soon.
