Google released the first stable construction of Android 16 last month with several new features. They also have direct updates, which provide notifications for real -time activities on the Android phone lock screen. Tech Dev has now provided more information about this feature. Direct updates in Android 16 can be included in apps that can provide services such as phone calls, ride sharing, and food supply, but not for advertising or promotion.

    Direct updates in Android 16

Take direct updates after the feature of direct activity on the iPhone. It provides notifications for an activity that is in active development and its start and ending period. Google explained on its developer page, saying that the purpose of this feature is to offer sensitive information mostly and not past events.

Some cases of this use include active navigation, ongoing phone calls, active food delivery tracking, and tracking active riding share through their related Android apps. These reports will be released on the Android device lock screen, which will provide details such as ETA (arrival time) or tracking.

Tech Dev said that it eliminates the need to open the phone to check the status. For example, Google Maps will show instructions during the active navigation in the status chip on the home screen, while the lock screen will show the current progress and further directions of the direct refreshing journey.

However, developers have to make sure that direct updates represent only activities that are clearly mobilized by the user and should only appear when the activity demands the user’s attention in its period.

The company also detailed the inappropriate use of the features of the updates directly. It cannot be used for advertising, promotions, chat messages, incoming calendar events, or warnings. For them, developers can use standard notifications such as other OS elements. Meanwhile, instant settings tile and app widgets can be used if they want to provide rapid access to their app functionality.

Although there are some exceptions. If a user already buys a flight or concert ticket for some time, or signals for an activity that is a timely sensitive event, direct updates can be triggered directly, but only when the schedule incident comes near.
