A team of scientists has developed a new type of self -healing circuit board that remains active even after severe mechanical damage and can be fully recovered or recycled using heat. Woven from liquid metal and woven using a polymer, called vetermer, new circuit boards can dramatically cut electronic waste and change the consumer stability of electronics. The vetermer maintains the strength of the traditional thermoset material while allowing flexibility and repair, which makes it possible to reconstruct damaged boards without compromising on power efficiency.
According to a study published in advanced materials on June 1, boards were formed by the amount of liquid metal droplets with only 5 % blended by the vetermer. This combination almost doubled the brake or strategicity on the stress of the material compared to the water.
