If you receive a lot of email alerts every day, handling them on Android makes it a bit easier soon. It seems that Google is testing a small update for Gmail for Android, which directly includes the notifications directly adding a new “mark” button. This is a simple feature, but the big difference may be how quickly users can handle incoming messages.

The new button was first seen by an X user who directly interacted with the Android Authority. The user said it had seen it for only one of his Gmail account and confirmed that he was using the latest version of Gmail for Android, version 2025.06.15. However, other people in the same version have not yet seen this feature. This shows whether Google is slowly rolling it or checking it with very few users.

Another user, Gallerie, also posted on X, had a feature, but did not attend the screenshot or their app version. These limited reports support the idea that this is a potential A/B test. Google often develops such features to see how users respond before deciding a broader release.

This is a miracle! The Gmail Android app now has a sign as a reading option at the notification center! Hollywood!

Currently, Gmail on Android only provides answering options and either secured documents or deletion (a function that is customized within the app). However, if being able to read is widely available, it will bring Gmail to Android with Gmail for iOS and other email apps, which already contain similar options. For Android users, the lack of instant “reading as a mark” means opening the app or setting a swipe action in inbox settings.

The ability to mark an email without opening the app is especially helpful to clear the less important messages. You can often decide whether the notification is able to open an email only by reading the article and preview text only. This feature will help users manage their inbox quickly without interrupting their flow.

Since someone who prefers to try their emails by quickly sorting through notifications, this small change will be a welcome improvement. Although the latest information is often focused on AI or productive properties, these are the quality of life tools that can have the biggest effect on a daily basis. Hopefully, Google soon increases the rollout and continues to add more practical tools to Gmail on Android.
