Stories about the construction of emotional contacts with AI are more often revealed, but Anthropic has just dropped a few numbers, claiming that it is as common as it looks. Surrounding 4.5 million conversations with the cloud, the company discovered that only 2.9 % of consumers engaged with it for emotional or personal help.
Anthropic wanted to emphasize that even though emotions on conversation are generally improved, cloud is not digital shrink. It rarely pushes out of safety concerns, meaning it will not give medical advice and ask people to harm themselves.
But that number may be more about the current than the future. Anthropic itself acknowledges that the landscape is changing rapidly, and what is counted as the “impressive” use nowadays will not be so uncommon tomorrow. Since more and more people interact with chat boats such as cloud, chatgot, and gym, more often, more and more people will bring AI to their emotional life.
