Google allegedly shared an email to some users on Tuesday, which raised concerns about confidentiality among some users. Several users published an email screenshots on social media platforms, highlighting a particular line where the company said that the Gemini AI assistant on Android would be able to connect with some apps, regardless of whether the app activity was stopped. This confusion happened when this feature is also called apps. However, it turns out that a Mountain View -based tech devot is probably referring to something else.

    Google’s email has been misunderstood

In the email, the company said, “Gemini will soon help you use the phone, messages, WhatsApp, and utility on your phone, whether your gymnasium apps activity is ongoing.” In email, however, Google mentioned, “If you don’t want to use these features, you can close them in apps settings.”

Now, the confusion was. Gemini extensions that enable the AI assistant to connect and carry out works on the first party and third party apps are also called “apps”. This has led users contradictory to Google’s email. Consumers also noticed that the company did not properly explain how to close this feature.

As the 9TO5 Google has explained, “the activity of gymnastics apps” refers to a bit different. This is a layout, currently available only on the website, which controls whether Google saves users’ indicators to exchange with Gemini in an activity log. This setting is available in the profile menu and web client side panel on mobile apps. You can find it here too.

When this layout is turned on, Google can use user data “Google products and services and machine learning technologies to provide, improve, develop and personal.” Information is also available for human reviewers. When off, this data is deleted after 72 hours (once the server acts on data to produce AI output).

Earlier, when the layout was closed, the Gemini AI Assistant could not contact the device apps, as stated in the report. However, with the update of July 7, this will not happen anymore. Users will not need to enable the Activity Activities to connect the WhatsApp, phone app, messages and utilities to connect Gemini.

This shows that the update will not raise any new privacy concerns, but instead will eliminate the current pain point for the company.
