Is making your own soda cheap?

It is easy to bubble your water, it saves space, and it is the most environmentally friendly option ever, compared to stacking the bottles of shining bottles in your refrigerator. But this is probably not cheap. In addition to the initial cost of the machine, you have to continue to fill the CO2 cans.
